Back-to-School School Supply Giveaway!

I’m excited to partner with Dr. Mahipat for our annual School Supply Giveaway on Saturday, August 22, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Randallstown, MD 21133

School supplies will be distributed while supplies last, so I encourage families to arrive early.

If you’re interested in supporting this effort, we are also accepting donations of:

* Classic backpacks
* 2-pocket folders
* Pencil pouches
* Crayons
* Black dry erase markers (4-pack)
* #2 pencils (10-count, unsharpened)
* Composition books
* College-ruled loose-leaf paper
* Spiral notebooks

Together, we can help ensure students across Baltimore County start the school year with the tools they need to learn, grow, and succeed.

Our young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow. They are making a difference today.

I’m honored to join Bridge Maryland, Inc. as a guest speaker for its Youth Leadership Workshop on Saturday, July 18, where we’ll spend time talking with young people ages 13-19 about what it truly means to lead with character, courage, and purpose.

Leadership isn’t about having a title. It’s about serving others, making good decisions, persevering through challenges, and understanding that your voice has the power to create positive change.

This workshop is designed to equip and inspire the next generation through practical life lessons, real-world experiences, and faith-centered encouragement. Parents are welcome to attend as well.

If you know a young person who wants to grow as a leader, I encourage you to register and join us.

Today we celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

I celebrate because I believe in the promise of this nation. I also reflect because I know that for many Americans, and especially Black Americans, that promise remains unfinished.

My parents and grandparents believed that each generation would leave this country more just than they found it. Today, as voting rights, civil rights protections, and opportunities for diversity and inclusion face renewed challenges, we cannot assume that progress is permanent. History reminds us that rights secured can also be rights reversed.

As Chair of the Maryland Legislative Black Caucus, I celebrate how far we’ve come, but I refuse to confuse progress with completion. Too many families still struggle to build wealth, access opportunity, find affordable housing, or trust that justice will be applied equally.

Frederick Douglass challenged America to live up to its ideals. Dr. King reminded us that the promise of democracy was a promissory note meant for everyone. That responsibility now belongs to us.

Today, enjoy your family. Celebrate our nation. But tomorrow, recommit yourself to protecting democracy, expanding opportunity, and ensuring that the next generation inherits an America that is more just, more inclusive, and more faithful to its founding promise than the one we inherited.

Happy Father’s Day from my family to yours.

There is no title I’m more grateful to have than “Dad.” My family has been my foundation through every season of life, and I’m thankful for every moment we get to spend together.

Today, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures who show up with love, strength, wisdom, and unwavering support. Your impact reaches far beyond what words can express.

I hope you all have a wonderful Father’s Day surrounded by the people you love.

Juneteenth is a reminder that freedom delayed is freedom denied, and that freedom is not just declared; it must be protected, defended, and made real for every generation.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, the last enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free. That delay reminds us that justice too often comes slowly, and that progress is never guaranteed. It requires courage, persistence, and a shared commitment to ensuring that freedom and opportunity reach everyone.

Today, we honor the resilience, strength, and immeasurable contributions of generations of Black Americans who helped shape our nation despite unimaginable adversity. We celebrate how far we’ve come while recognizing there is still work to do to build a more just, equitable, and inclusive future.

May we recommit ourselves to protecting civil rights, expanding opportunity, strengthening our communities, and ensuring that the promise of freedom is realized for every Marylander.
