Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at the Fire Department

Today we honor the incredible mothers who hold our families and our community together. To the moms on our crews who balance the demands of the fire service with the demands of home, your strength, sacrifice, and heart make this job possible.

To the mothers, wives, partners, grandmothers, and caregivers who support our firefighters thank you for being the steady foundation behind every shift, every call, and every long night.

Your love and resilience are felt in every part of this department.

Happy Mother’s Day. We appreciate you more than words can say.

Today we honor the memory of Assistant Chief Mike Childress, who gave his life in service to our community on May 7, 2005. Mike was the kind of leader who showed up, stepped in, and put others first even on the days he didn’t feel his best. His dedication, his quiet strength, and his devotion to the Level Cross community will never be forgotten.
We remember his sacrifice, his service, and the legacy he left behind.

This week, your Level Cross firefighters are training on vehicle lifting and stabilization. While this may appear highly technical, it’s built on mastering the fundamentals — the same fundamentals that make the difference when seconds count.

Tonight’s training focused on lifting a road tractor, working alongside Asheboro Fire Department Rescue 1 and Tower 1 crews. Training like this strengthens not only our skillset, but also our coordination with mutual aid partners.

We remain committed to providing the highest level of training and education to our personnel — because your safety depends on it.

State Wide Burn Ban into effect

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.
