ALL ABOUT MEPS:
Your recruiter will schedule you to take your physical at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). The recruiter will brief you on proper attire to wear for your trip to the MEPS. You will be at the MEPS the entire day. You will take a complete physical exam that includes hearing, eye, and range of motion tests. Females will have a breast exam. You will be given blood tests and a urinalysis test as well. Some times additional medical consultations are required to ensure your eligibility so your physical may take more than one day. Once you have passed your physical, and any additional testing, an Air Force job counselor at the MEPS will interview you. The counselor will determine your qualifications for enlisting in the Air Force and talk with you about Air Force jobs. They will ask about your availability to go to basic training and the type of job you would like to do in the Air Force. Ordinarily you will be required to list at least 4 or 5 specific job choices, AND at least one Area choice (Mechanical, Administrative, General, Electronics). You MUST be willing to accept ANY ONE of those options, regardless which one is selected for you. If you receive any one of your choices there is no trading it in for a better choice. It is the job you will be trained for, and doing while in the Air Force, so choose wisely. Odds are, you will not get your Air Force job the same day you are at the MEPS so you will be placed on our waiting list and be contacted with your selection by your recruiter.

TO QUALIFY FOR THE US AIR FORCE, YOU MUST:

Be a US citizen or have a valid unrestricted alien registration card from the USCIS with at least 2 years remaining until expiration (You must obtain this status on your own, the Air Force cannot assist you with obtaining it)

You cannot be a Conscientious Objector. A conscientious objector is an individual who has claimed the right to refuse to perform military service on the grounds of freedom of thought, conscience, or religion.

Any Law Violations will need to be evaluated

Any use of illegal drugs or misuse of prescription medication will need to be evaluated

You will also have a credit check run looking for delinquencies and overbalanced credit.

Be between the ages of 17-27. If 17 you will need parental consent

Be of good health all medical issues will need to be evaluated. Meet our height and weight requirements, reference link below:

Be a high school graduate, junior or senior for enlistment. College Grad or senior for Officer Programs

The Air Force allows you to be single with no dependents, married to a military member with no dependents, or married to a civilian with one dependent upon entry to enlistment.

You will need to have a Social Security Card

HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- Two Air Force Special Operations Command combat controllers were presented military decorations here Oct. 27 by the Air Force chief of staff for exhibiting extraordinary heroism in combat.

1. Due to DoD wide increased security measures, a background check must be accomplished on all family and friends of trainees attending Air Force Basic Military Training (BMT) graduation events. Prior to EAD, all recruits must complete a Visitor Access Request Letter, and hand carry it with them to BMT. This will save training time, avoid processing delays, and prevent unnecessary travel expenses for family members denied access to Lackland AFB.

2. Visitors planning to attend BMT graduation week events are highly encouraged to purchase refundable/transferrable tickets in the event they are denied access or in the event their recruit’s graduation date changes. Also, all guest(s) 18 year old and over must have a photo ID.

3. Recruits must list everyone who will/might attend their graduation. Visitors under the age of 18 may enter the base when escorted by an adult who is granted access.

4. Denial of Visitor Access

a. All collected information is considered “law enforcement” sensitive and is not disclosed to non-law enforcement personnel. Some of the more common reasons individuals are denied installation access are:

1) Currently on parole and/or probation

2) Registered s*x offender

3) History of gang affiliation or extensive criminal history

4) Identified on the Terrorist Watch list

5) Currently have an active warrant

6) Currently barred from any U.S. military installation

7) Any felony conviction for murder, assault, s*x offenses, etc.
