Hey Maine, maybe it is time to include ourselves in the NPVIC, a cohort of states that will support the winner of the popular vote in a presidential election (when enough members join). Maybe we could help improve the Electoral College system which (cough) seems to have some flaws. Ballot measure?

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is an agreement among a group of U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The compact is designed t...

It looks like I won't be joining the Gardiner City Council this time. Incumbents Tim Cusick and Maryann White will be returning to continue their excellent work, joined by Penny Sargent. Thanks to everyone who voted for me and for all the people who encouraged and supported me in this endeavor.

If you haven't voted yet today is your day! The Gardiner ballot has some good choices on it Thom Harnett and Shenna Bellows on the State level and Maryann White, Timothy Cusick and Pat Hart for the city, among others.

I added a few more signs to the Gardiner landscape the other day. It was good to get out and talk to a few people.

I went downtown this morning with my son Elliott to watch the bridge demolition/construction. I love seeing these projects happening in Gardiner. I have been engaged with many betterment projects through volunteer work for years. I am usually working on a hyper-local level, but it is great to see these larger infrastructure projects happen. This is a unique time in history with compelling opportunities to help the city solve safety and economic problems. Watching a bridge being built in the community is a great metaphor and I'm glad I was able to take time before work/school to share it with my son. Keep building bridges.

Here is an overview of your voting options for Gardiner City Council. A good article.

Here is an overview of your voting options for Gardiner City Council. A good article.

Timothy Cusick and Maryanne White, both incumbents, are each running for a third term on the City Council. Kerstin Gilg, Penny Sergent and Scott Williams, a former city councilor, are also running.

I spoke with Timothy Cusick yesterday. He is an incumbent seeking re-election for the City Council. He has a very strong record and has been a dedicated public servant during his terms. He does not have a big social media presence, so if you want to learn more about him you could go to the old council meeting minutes I guess (fun!). My top takeaway is that he is very concerned about maintaining a reasonable tax rate for residents while having the city provide top quality services... A balance that I can appreciate. I also really like that he is into the financial numbers and digging within the budget. I worry how the current economic downturn may impact the city budget and having Tim on the team to work through the problem gives me confidence. So, if you are not sure where how to cast all three of your Gardiner City Council votes, you may want to consider Tim.

I dropped off my ballot off at City Hall! I am looking forward to tracking it's journey through the online State system... and creating an anthropomorphised narrative about the adventures of Ballot-y for the kids. It is not the same as getting voting sticker, but we are doing the best with what we've got. Vote early if you can!
