February 21, 1932 – May 29, 2026

Delores Lorena Carter-Hust, known affectionately to family and friends as "Dee," passed away on May 29, 2026, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Born on Feb. 21, 1932, Dee was a classy lady, beautiful inside and out, who filled her 94 years with humor, energy, and a sharp wit. Mirroring the timeless glamour and spirit of the iconic Elizabeth Taylor, she famously looked back on her journey and remarked, "Lots of adventures. Lots of lovers. Life has not been dull!"

Dee began her professional life as a country school teacher in the Volga area after graduating from Brookings High School in 1950 and attending teacher's college in Madison. She then transitioned into healthcare, spending 24 dedicated years (1975-1999) working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in diverse environments across Sioux Falls, Rapid City, and Lima, Ohio. While she excelled in her career, Dee’s greatest passions were centered around her roles as a daughter, sister, friend, wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In her younger days, Dee loved to dance, sing, travel, and socialize. As the years went on, she cherished quiet moments watching her favorite TV Westerns, especially Gunsmoke and Wells Fargo, and took great pleasure in shopping on QVC. She loved planning and celebrating holidays/special events, creating wonderful memories for the family she adored.

Dee is survived by her children, Jeffrey Allen Laughlin and Jan Maree Engels (Marvin); her grandchildren, Amber Keller (Jeremy), Neili Laughlin (Tanner), Audra Laughlin, Logan Michael Engels, Nikolay Dean Engels, Amy Mitchell (Brian), Cullan Laughlin (Tammy), Rory Engels (Brittney), Kali Powell (Chris); and her great-grandchildren, Addison Keller, Ryan Keller, Hayden Laughlin, Haley Nerland (Conner), Allie Laughlin (Issac), Jena Runia (Mason), Lauren J'Nofinn (Marcus), Brycen Mitchell, Talia Engels, Holden Engels, Cohen Powell, Kinlee Powell. She is also survived by her sisters, Jeannette Louise Crapser and Kay Lynn Cox (Ron), alongside extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Roger Hust, who passed away on March 30, 2011; ex-husband/father of Jeff and Jan, Donald Eugene Laughlin (1930-2011); her sister Norma Ann Sharp; her parents, Eldon Paul Carter and Hazel Mariah Laabs; her grandparents, Amberzine Glen, Albert Christopher Frederick Laabs, Anna White, and Alonzo Carter; her brother, Larry Eldon Carter; and her daughter-in-law Kimberly Laughlin in 2025.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Word of Hope Wesleyan Church, located at 1351 Jolly Lane, Rapid City, SD 57703. The service will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a light luncheon to follow at the church. Urn placement will occur at a later date at the Chief Tecopa Cemetery in Pahrump, Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Nurses at Hospice House in Rapid City, South Dakota. Online condolences and shared memories can be left on the guestbook register at WestRiverfd.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to West River Funeral Directors.

Official Obituary of

Scott Patrick White
September 2, 1970 – May 6, 2026

Scott Patrick White, passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2026, in Rapid City, South Dakota, surrounded by the love of his family who remained faithfully by his side until he took his last breath.

Born on September 2, 1970, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Scott was the son of Arthur Brent White and Nancy Elizabeth Pectol, both of whom preceded him in death.

As a young child, Scott lived in New Mexico before being raised in Richmond, Utah, where he attended Sky View High School and later married his high school sweetheart, Marlene Hernandez. Together, they built a life in Cache Valley, Utah, where they raised their three children: Chelsea (Freddy) Vidrio, Shawn White, and Brittany (Matthew Sharp) White.

Scott was a proud father who loved his children fiercely. Being a dad was one of the greatest joys of his life, and later being a grandfather whose family meant everything to him. He leaves behind his cherished children and grandchildren Devin Vidrio, Derek Vidrio, Luna White, Amelia White, Silas Sharp, and Emmy Sharp, each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.

Later in life, Scott moved to South Dakota, where he eventually lived alongside his older brother Shawn and his beloved loyal companion, T.J., until his passing.

He spent his final moments surrounded by love from Marlene, their children and spouses, his grandchildren, and his brother Shawn.

Scott lived life with intensity, humor, and heart. He was endlessly talented and curious, with hands that always needed a project to work on. He was extremely intelligent, meticulous, and often underestimated. He valued cleanliness, order, and precision in nearly everything he did.

He loved aquariums, fi****ms, fishing, archery, dirt bikes, RC cars, classic American cars, camping, and anything outdoors. He especially loved sitting outside during thunderstorms, watching lightning streak across the sky while listening to the thunder roll in. Or sitting around by the campfire.

He was known for his love of 80s rock music, action and horror movies, and cooking for the people he loved while experimenting in the kitchen with his famous creations.

Beneath his rugged and sometimes intimidating exterior was a deeply sensitive, generous, loving soul with a heart of gold. He loved unconditionally, felt deeply, and gave freely to the people and animals he cared about, always willing to help those in need.

Scott will be remembered for his sharp mind, humor, loyalty, and the unforgettable presence he brought into the lives of those around him. Though he was taken far too soon, the love he gave and the memories he created will continue to live on in stories, laughter, music, campfires, thunderstorms, and quiet moments of remembrance.

He is survived by his stepmother, Cheryl White, his siblings the White’s Jim, Shawn, Terri Davis, Stacy Avery, and Geoff; his step-siblings the Brown’s Kyle, Jason, Brett “Bucky”, Kevin, Mindy Neph, and Zach; and the Hernandez family, whom he loved as his own: Roberto, Rosa, Robert, Byron, Freddy, Diana Velasquez, Edward, David, Danny, and many more loved in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather Leroy Pectol and sister-in-law Rosie Hernandez.

Scott was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed for the rest of our lives and will forever be carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
