No Killer Cops on Stolen Land

Today the Oceti Sakowin, community members of all ages, and our allies Marched Towards Justice to share their demands that lay the foundation for community-led police accountability.

Sunny Red Bear, Lakota, NDN Action Network Organizer not only calls for justice and an end to the violence, but for our community to come together to take collective action.

“We're letting them know that we will no longer allow these things to happen in our community. That we stand together as a community, and not just Native people. This is not just Native people standing. This is Native people, our allies that we have to stand together as a community in unity and in solidarity, and that is what we're doing today.”

“The March today is a step on our path towards peace and justice. We will continue to unite diverse communities, working together to keep our relatives and community members safe from violence. We look forward to working with the DOJ to advocate for police reform and enhanced police accountability. The old way is not working, we are speaking truth to power to create a positive change for our community”. - Robby Burroughs, Managing Director of NDN Action Network. Via NDNCollective

We don’t have a permit and we don’t need one! 💥

Constitutional rights are important, the 1st Amendment protects our freedom of speech and right to assemble (like the Avengers!), Article 6 of the US Constitution states that treaties are the supreme law of the land. The 1851 and 1868 treaties grant the Black Hills to the Lakota Nation in perpetuity.

The bill of rights and the Treaties supersede the need for a permit on the Fourth of July!

We are standing on our treaty rights to fight for our human rights.

On July 4th NDN Action Network and 60+ local organizations and businesses are collaborating to March Toward Justice: Holding Police Accountable. Uniting diverse communities, organizations, and individuals to eradicate police brutality, dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline, and advocate for justice, equality, and fair treatment for all.

“There are a lot of people here in Rapid City that want to take a stand against racism and we wanted to create an opportunity for everyone in our community to do that,” said Sunny Red Bear, NDN Collective Local Organizer. “We cannot fight racism alone, as Indigenous People, and as the ones who are experiencing it, we need everyone to be a part of the solution."
