TRAFFIC RESTRICTION/
SAINT JOSEPH STREET

Effective Thursday, October 1, J V Bailey Co., Inc. will be performing crack sealing on Saint Joseph Street and a spall repair on the 6th Street turn lane at Saint Joseph Street.

Traffic Impact:
• A traffic restriction will be on Saint Joseph Street from 8th Street to 9th street.
• The 6th street eastbound turning lane to Saint Joseph Street will be closed.
o 6TH Street southbound traffic will not be allowed to turn eastbound onto Saint Joseph Street.
• 6th Street southbound traffic will detour to Kansas City Street and follow a detour north on 5th street back to Saint Joseph Street.

Stop by Fire Station 1 on Thursday, October 8, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. for an evening of fire safety and family fun.
This year’s Fire Prevention Week focuses on lithium-ion battery safety and the importance of safe charging. We’ll have kids’ activities, educational handouts and resources to help the whole family learn how to use and charge battery powered devices safely.
Our friends from Rapid City Solid Waste will also be there to answer your questions about how and where to properly dispose of lithium-ion batteries.

When it’s time to GO NOW!, do not return until public safety officials give you the okay to do so. Even if it looks safe from a distance, conditions can change quickly and hazards may still be present.

Don’t wait to leave. Leaving early gives you and emergency responders a better chance of getting where you need to go safely.

How do you know when it’s safe to return? Returning too soon can put you, your family, and emergency responders at risk.
• Check the Public Safety Hub for official updates and information.
• Follow official public safety agencies on social media.
• Wait for public safety officials to announce that it is safe to return.

LANE CLOSURES/
CATRON BOULEVARD

Effective Tuesday, September 29, City of Rapid City crews will be making repairs to the water main and road on Catron Boulevard.

Traffic Impact:
• Westbound lanes will be reduced to one lane on Catron Boulevard.
• From Vineyard Lane to Sheridan Lake Road.
• The left turn lanes in and out on Belgarde Boulevard will be closed.
• Please use the left turn lane from Nugget Gulch Road.
• Eastbound lanes will remain open.

CANDY AND COSTUMES SOUGHT TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY HALLOWEEN EVENTS


RAPID CITY, SD—Fall season is upon us and Halloween is just around the corner. Kids throughout the community will be parading through neighborhoods in colorful costumes knocking on doors seeking tiny sweet treats before you know it.
For a fourth consecutive year, Journey On and the Rapid City Police Department’s Community Engagement Team are seeking donations of candy and costumes to support youth in need and to support the many safe trick or treat events hosted throughout Rapid City in October. Donations can be dropped off at collection boxes in the City Hall lobby, 300 Sixth Street; Journey On Offices at 124 Quincy Street; and the Rapid City Police Department Substation outside of the Spirit of Halloween Store at the Uptown Mall.
Journey On will also be hosting Halloween Costume Boo-tiques for youth living in the Knollwood, Star Village and Sagebrush Flats neighborhoods. Youth will have a chance to pick out a costume or create one of their own to ensure they are able to participate in school-sponsored Halloween activities and in the safe Halloween events hosted throughout the community. Donations will be accepted through Wednesday, October 21.
In the previous three years of the candy donation drive, more than 26,000 pieces of candy have been donated to support safe trick or treat events and hundreds of donated costumes have ensured all youth had the ability to participate in the holiday fun. As residents prepare for trick-or-treaters this Halloween season, we ask the community to pick up an extra bag or two of candy and to consider donating a new or gently-used costume.

MOST PARK RESTROOMS SET TO CLOSE FOR SEASON FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER

RAPID CITY, SD—Effective next Monday (October 5), most restroom facilities in the Rapid City parks system are set to close for the winter season. Meanwhile, adjustments in hours of operation will be made at three City park restroom facilities during the month of October.

• The Sioux Park restroom facility near the playground and the lower Robbinsdale Park restroom facility will be open through October depending on weather conditions and will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, the Sioux Park Tennis Courts restroom facility will remain open during park hours depending on weather conditions.
• On November 1, year-round facilities at Skyline Wilderness Park, Founders Park and Canyon Lake-West restroom facilities will adjust to winter hours of operation from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be closed for inclement weather.
• The Memorial Park bandshell facility will also be winterized and closed for the winter season in October.
• The remainder of restroom facilities in City's parks will close after Sunday, October 4 for the winter season until May 1.

Portable restroom facilities are available throughout the year at Braeburn Park, Jackson Park Disc Golf Course, West Fulton Trailhead, Robbinsdale Park Walking Path and at Lacroix Disc Golf. Seasonal portable facilities will be available beginning October 5 at Canyon Lake Park Pumphouse Playground, Canyon Lake Park Shelter #3, Vickie Powers Park, Wilson Park and beginning October 30 at the Sioux Park Playground and Robbinsdale Park Lower Playground.

CLASS VISIT

Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun was a guest speaker to three fourth grade classes at Corral Drive Elementary School this morning, part of the classes’ section on city government and services.
The mayor shared his experiences as mayor and fielded questions from students in Mr. Seefeldt, Ms. Koehne and Mrs. Stetson’s classes. The students asked the mayor numerous questions including what he likes best about being mayor (meeting all kinds of people), and why he wanted to become mayor (to make the community a better place), among others.
The kids were very excited to discuss the pending opening of Chick-Fil-A, Panda Express and Chipotle restaurants in Rapid City and the mayor visited with them about how they will benefit from the new sports complex.

As part of our Ready, Set, Go! campaign, we want you to know what these door hangers mean and what you should do if you receive one.

If SET is checked, your area may be impacted by a life-threatening hazard that may require you to leave soon.
This is the time to Get SET to go and closely monitor conditions and official updates in case the situation changes.

If conditions allow, take a look at the “Are You Ready to Go?” checklist on the back of the door hanger. If you don't already have a go bag packed, now is the time to gather your essential items and get ready to leave quickly.

If GO is checked, GO NOW!
A life-threatening hazard is affecting your area and you need to evacuate. Leave early and follow instructions from emergency personnel.

Who puts these on your door?
When conditions allow, public safety officials may go door to door to notify residents.
