On April 2, 2025, at approximately 7:24 am, Doty VFD responded to Creek Cave Trail Head off Nemo Road to attempt to locate a missing person.
A large group of first responders actively searched the area on foot with the assistance of a K9 team and drone.
The person was located and is safe.

The following agencies assisted with our response and the search: Pennington County Search & Rescue, Rapid City Fire Department, Johnson Siding Volunteer Fire Department, and the Lawrence County Search and Rescue.

🚨⚠️ All active slash pile burn permits have been REVOCKED as of 3/13/26⚠️🚨

If you have a pile that you started to burn previously, please ensure it is FULLY extinguished!

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has revoked all active pile burn permits across the Black Hills effective today, ending the pile burn season early due to dry conditions, active wildfires, and elevated fire danger. If you have recently burned debris piles, check them immediately and make sure they are completely extinguished.

We had a great time at the Nemo Lumberjack Days. Doty claimed both the waterball championship, and the crosscut saw competition.

Wednesday night we had some folks from neighboring agencies join us for a peer support and critical incident training at Doty, the training was led by representatives from the Pennington County Sheriff's Office Peer Support Team.

Unfortunately in the world of first responders we are often put in situations with high levels of trauma and see the worst that the world has to offer. If you do this long enough it will effect you, so we train not just on skills but how to handle the stress and trauma of the job.

Thanks to the PCSO for supporting our local VFDs.

About a dozen or so kids braved the frigid cold for Trunk or Treat. Fewer kids meant one-on-one time with the fire fighters, time checking out the trucks, and best of all lots of extra candy. A great time was had by all.
