The federal government loses an estimated $233 billion to $521 billion to fraud every year. This is unacceptable. I voted to pass several common-sense bills to stop fraud in government programs because every taxpayer dollar matters.

Congratulations to Mark Cruz on his nomination for Director of the Indian Health Service. Mark has strong ties to South Dakota’s tribal leaders and volunteered with Teach for America at Rosebud. He will lead IHS well and improve health care for Native communities across South Dakota and beyond. I look forward to the Senate confirming him quickly.

I spoke to Girls State attendees in Vermillion about the importance of civic engagement at all levels of government. They had some great questions about leadership, supporting South Dakota ag, and the future impact of artificial intelligence. I’m looking forward to seeing how they improve their communities and our country.
