Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park

Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park The privately owned Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park features over 20 miles of hiking, mountain biking and running trails open to the public!

Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park (HLMP), a non-profit, privately operated park, is home to nearly 20 miles of natural-surface recreational trails on 300 acres of impeccable Black Hills terrain and just minutes form the heart of Rapid City’s historic downtown district. Edna Marie “Eddie” Larsen, a lifelong Hermosa area ranch owner and resident of Rapid City, who passed away in 2004, had the vision to me

morialize her parents, Ed Larsen and Etta Hanson-Larsen, by establishing a trust to build a park in their honor. The Park is privately funded and utilizes no tax-dollars or public funding for its development and operation. The trails in the Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park have offerings for hikers, mountain bikers and runners of all skill levels, from gently-graded, wide trails for beginners and families, to more technically-advanced, rock strewn terrain for more challenging adventures. With majestic views of Mt. Rushmore, Harney Peak, The Badlands and Bear Butte, the Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park has already garnered local and national media attention. HLMP has been featured in a number of stories in the media including South Dakota Magazine , Men’s Journal and Mountain Bike Magazine. The trails at Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park have been compared to some of the “best mountain bike meccas of the west.”

The gate has been recovered. It was spotted up the hill by an eagle-eyed park user! The question remains; why would anyone cut a lock, unhinge a heavy gate and haul it nowhere?
