RAPID VALLEY SANITARY DISTRICT – Water Service
New Madison Well is Online and in the System
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rapid City SD – September 28, 2026
The long anticipated new Madison Well for Rapid Valley Sanitary District (RVSD) is now live and in the system. The drilling was completed in early 2025 and once that was done, construction started on the well house and the connection to the distribution system. The entire construction process is complete, all testing and troubleshooting complete and the well is online being blended with our surface source water. We are excited and grateful for the good yield and high quality water that resulted from this project.
This project is a key component in our efforts to create future long-term water security and source water redundancy for the system to meet area growth and provide sustainability for district consumers years into the future. Our team is very excited and proud to see what started in 2022 with extensive meetings and planning come full circle to 3 successfully completed projects. The Madison Well, the new 2 million gallon storage reservoir and the 12” water main connection to Box Elder for emergencies. These projects will help the district meet the future demands of the system, provide additional storage capacity and provide emergency backup to our neighbors in Box Elder.
We are grateful to Pennington County and SD DANR for the grant funds that were awarded to our system through the ARPA program and for their foresight in recognizing the need to meet growing demand before the need arises. We are also grateful to our customers for their patience with this project, we couldn’t have asked for a better outcome!
