Highs in the 70s, cooler nights, and a lot less humidity make September one of the most comfortable months to tour the Black Hills. You'll spend less time sweating through overlooks and more time actually enjoying them. It's peak-season scenery without the peak-season heat.

September might be the most underrated month to visit Mount Rushmore. The summer crowds have thinned out, the days are still warm, and the evenings carry that first hint of Black Hills fall. It's easier to get a great photo, a good seat at the Chuckwagon Show, and a more relaxed pace all around.
