DVA Covid-19 closure updates,
Rapid City quickly reacted to Governor Noem's press conference citing community spread occurring in Beadle County yesterday by holding a special council meeting last night at 6pm.
This meeting was to address an emergency ordinance advised to the city by it's primary medical advisor, Monument Health, to take restrictive action beginning this upcoming week. Rapid City passed the ordinance to follow the CDC Guidelines restricting or closing certain businesses. Legally, there needs to be a second reading of the ordinance, which is scheduled this Friday, March 27th, at which time they will likely vote to begin closing non-essential businesses.
District 32 House Representative Scyller Borglum commented on behalf of small businesses, stating the irreversible economic impact this quick ordinance would have, and that they can do this right by developing a plan for Rapid City before shutting the city down and losing the small business economy.
It sounds like most retail is excluded from the non-essential businesses list, though v**e lounges are specifically mentioned along with cigar bars, casinos, etc.
Huron SD already has these non-essential business closure orders in place, and Sioux Falls will have a meeting on the 24th to discuss potential action.
We encourage any v**e shop in South Dakota that has been able to remain open, and especially those in the Rapid City area, to implement the following recommendations on top of our earlier recommendations:
Discontinue all use of any lounge areas.
Discontinue on-site consumption.
Limit 5 customers in the shop at one time.
Discourage loitering of any kind.
Limit the amount of time for each transaction.
Provide hand sanitizer for customers and employees.
V**e shops need to take every precaution to continue to be considered an essential business. Many retail stores (gas stations, grocery stores, etc.) that will be considered essential carry large amounts of to***co products and a much smaller amount of v**e supplies. If v**e shops are forced to close, to***co use will likely increase and our communities will be cut off from the life-saving technology our businesses promote. We need to take every step we can to stay safe and stay open by following every recommendation from our local and state officials.
We will stay current on this issue and let everyone know updates as we get them.
