REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR CITY RECREATION DEPARTMENT YOUTH & ADULT FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUES

Temperatures may be hovering from the 90’s to triple digits, however City recreation officials are already planning for those cooler September evenings and youth and adult flag football action.

Registration is now open for this fall’s youth and adult flag football leagues, hosted by the City’s Parks and Recreation Department.

The youth flag football leagues are open to youth in first through sixth grades. Registration deadline is August 19 with the season beginning September 7-10 in the various age categories. Registration fee is $65 and includes a jersey, with the fee waived for players with parent-coaches. Games will be played at the Omaha Street soccer fields.

The adult flag football leagues will begin action September 1 with registration deadline set for August 26. Registration fee is $375 and the league includes men’s competitive, men’s recreation, and women’s divisions. Games are also played at the Omaha Street soccer fields.

“It’s hot out, it’s rally time, and school will be starting soon. It’s also time to think football,” said City Recreation Specialist Seth Johnson. “We always have a lot of interest in both the youth and adult football leagues and we’re encouraging early registrations as they will fill up quickly.

“The youth leagues are a great way to introduce the game to young participants. Parents can register now and it’s one less thing to work on with the start of school just around the corner.”

RAPID CITY PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT LISTS ADJUSTED HOURS AND CLOSURE DATES FOR CITY POOLS

Rapid City’s Parks and Recreation Department will stagger closures of the City pools over the next few weeks with school starting soon and many seasonal staff leaving summer employment for high school and college commitments.

The last day for the Horace Mann and Parkview pools will be Thursday, August 20. The final day for swimming at the Jimmy Hilton Sioux Park pool will be Sunday, September 6.

With the start of school, the Sioux Park pool will operate with adjusted hours August 21 - September 6. Pool hours will be noon to 7 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during this period and 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

The 50-meter outdoor pool at the Roosevelt Swim Center will remain open through much of September with the final day of swimming scheduled for September 26.

The 11th annual Wags and Waves event hosted by the Humane Society of the Black Hills is slated for Labor Day Monday from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the Sioux Park pool. The water will be drained from the pool after the event.

🎉 The wait is over—Robbinsdale playgrounds are officially OPEN! 🛝

Come out and play! The upper playground is ready for fun, while crews are putting the finishing touches on the shelter handrails. Down below, the playground is open too, with some concrete work still in progress.

👉 To access the lower playground, just follow the sidewalk to the shelter.

🚧 Fences will be removed once the grass has fully come in.

The wait is finally over! 🎉

The Robbinsdale Playground is in its final stages, and we’re so excited to welcome everyone back for some fun! 🛝☀️

The lower playground is expected to open late afternoon on Monday, August 3, or Tuesday morning, August 4.

The upper playground is already open, but you may still see our crews putting the finishing touches on railings and concrete.
