Better late than never! 🇺🇸
Last Monday, we had the honor of hosting the Bridge Dedication Ceremony for 1LT Laurence Radlinger.
For nearly three years, we had been searching for a photograph of Laurence. Despite our best efforts, we simply couldn’t find one. Then, over the weekend, after seeing media coverage of the dedication, one of Laurence’s distant relatives, Larry Schlichtling-who was named after Laurence-reached out to thank us and shared a photograph of Laurence in uniform.
What a gift!
After all these years, we finally get to see 1LT Laurence Radlinger in his American uniform—the uniform he proudly wore while serving our country.
It makes his bridge dedication even more meaningful. We are honored to remember Laurence, his service, and his sacrifice, and grateful to his family for helping us put a face to the name and the hero we were honoring. 🇺🇸
Welcome home, Laurence. We will remember you.

Today our center was honored to host Governor Larry Rhoden, along with some seniors, veterans and other community members for the dedication of the 1LT Laurence E. Radlinger Bridge on Highway 16.

Bridges are an important part of infrastructure. They connect communities, families, opportunities and generations. This bridge now connects us not only physically, but also to the story and sacrifice of a South Dakota WW2 hero.

To date, 72 South Dakota bridges have been dedicated in honor of 78 service members. These memorials ensure their courage and sacrifice are remembered for generations to come.

Strong infrastructure connects us. Strong communities remember.

Laurence served as a First Lieutenant, 2047th Engineer Fire Fighting Platoon, Aviation, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.
