Yesterday we welcomed 122 new staff members to RCAS, and the countdown is officially ON! ⏰

The first day of school is right around the corner, and we can’t wait to see what this incredible group brings to our schools and students. Welcome to the RCAS family!

🎉 Congratulations, Anita Deranleau! 🎉

We are proud to celebrate Anita Deranleau, McKinney-Vento Coordinator for Rapid City Area Schools, who has received the Lisa Bondy Award for Outstanding Service from the South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium.

For the past 15 years, Anita has worked tirelessly to support RCAS students and families experiencing housing insecurity—helping remove barriers to education, connecting families with resources, and ensuring students have the support they need to succeed.

Her impact reaches far beyond Rapid City. Anita also mentors educators and service providers across South Dakota, serves on statewide committees, helps guide funding decisions, and advocates for youth experiencing homelessness.

This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, achievement, and vision in addressing homelessness across South Dakota—and Anita is incredibly deserving of this honor.

Please join us in congratulating Anita and thanking her for her compassionate service to students, families, and communities across our state! 💙

District-Wide Kindergarten Screening – Last Chance! 🍎

If your child will be starting kindergarten this fall and missed the spring screening, recently moved to Rapid City Area Schools, or you're still deciding about kindergarten, this is your opportunity!

Wednesday, August 5, 2026

Drop in anytime between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m.

Before attending the screening, please ensure your child's enrollment with RCAS is complete. Screening provides important baseline information to help our teachers prepare for a successful start to the school year and is required for consideration in our limited-space Junior Kindergarten program.

🎉 Sharing the Win: Congratulations to Heather Linde!

Rapid City Area Schools is proud to celebrate Heather Linde, Health Sciences Teacher and HOSA Advisor at Central High School, for receiving the 2026 HOSA Local Advisor Outstanding Service Award at the HOSA International Leadership Conference!

Heather was recognized as the Central Region recipient, one of only three advisors in the nation to receive this honor. Her dedication to inspiring future healthcare professionals and supporting student success continues to make a lasting impact.

Congratulations, Heather, and thank you for representing Central High School and RCAS with excellence!

🎉 Sharing the Win: Welcome, Principal Bobbie Morrison! 🎉

Rapid City Area Schools is excited to welcome Bobbie Morrison as the new principal of West Middle School for the 2026-27 school year!

Bobbie brings a wealth of experience to West, having served as a classroom teacher, Dean of Students, and, most recently, Assistant Principal at Central High School. Her career has been built on a passion for student success, meaningful relationships, and creating schools where every learner can thrive.

For Bobbie, this role is especially meaningful. After first coming to the Black Hills as part of her family's Air Force journey, she and her husband chose to make Rapid City their permanent home. Two of their own children attended West Middle School before graduating from Stevens High School, giving her a unique connection to the school and community she now leads.

As she begins this new chapter, Bobbie is committed to building on West Middle School's strong tradition of excellence by fostering a culture where students and staff are encouraged to grow, embrace challenges, and achieve their full potential.
