What would the proposed RCAS bond address?

The proposed $107 million bond referendum includes $3 million for safety and security improvements at Black Hawk Elementary, Grandview Elementary, Knollwood Elementary, Southwest Middle School and West Middle School.

Because of the layout of these buildings, creating secure entrances requires additional infrastructure changes—not just adding or replacing a door.

Proposed improvements include:

• Secure entrances to better control visitor access
• Interior classroom door locks
• Expanded camera systems
• Infrastructure changes to create more consistent safety measures across the district

These projects are part of the $107 million RCAS bond referendum on the November 3, 2026 ballot.

We’re looking for local professionals to help inspire the next generation at the 8th Grade Career Fair!

Join us at The Monument on November 17 or 18 to connect with local 8th graders as they explore future careers. This is a great opportunity to share what you do, answer students’ questions, and give them a real-world look at the many career paths available right here in our community.

Career Fair Times:
November 17 | 8:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
November 18 | 8:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

What would the proposed RCAS bond address?

One area included in the proposed $107 million bond referendum is $32 million for HVAC and energy improvements at Horace Mann Elementary, Meadowbrook Elementary, and North Middle School.

Many school heating, cooling, and ventilation systems are nearing the end of their useful life. The proposed work focuses on updating existing buildings and systems before aging equipment requires more significant repairs or replacement.

The proposed HVAC projects include:

• Replacing aging heating, cooling, and ventilation systems
• Improving classroom air quality and ventilation
• Providing more consistent heating and cooling
• Installing modern controls to improve system performance
• Improving energy efficiency
• Completing related lighting and ceiling upgrades as part of the work

These projects are part of the $107 million RCAS bond referendum on the November 3, 2026 ballot.

TOMORROW! Come see our schools up close!

Join Rapid City Area Schools tomorrow, September 19 at 10:00 AM, for our Facilities Tour.

We’ll start at South Middle School, then hop on a bus to visit several RCAS schools and take a closer look at our facilities.

This is a great opportunity to see our schools firsthand, learn more about our facilities, and ask questions along the way.

Ribbon Cutting at the General Beadle Family Resource Center!

Today we celebrated the ribbon cutting for the General Beadle Family Resource Center a great resource for our students, families and community!

The Resource Center provides access to showers, washers and dryers, and a food pantry, helping meet some of the basic needs of our school community.

A huge thank you to the Black Hills Community Foundation and Feeding South Dakota for helping make this resource possible and for investing in our students and families. We’re grateful for the partnerships that make a difference right here in our community! ❤️
