Fall changes what underwater work looks like without changing the discipline behind the dive. Colder temperature tightens the thermal exposure protocol on every dive. Algae die-off shifts the visibility pattern that ran all summer, sometimes clearing water and sometimes fouling it as the biological load settles. Wind and wave patterns narrow the safe weather windows for surface-supported work, and the crew works on shorter daylight than three months ago.

The dive plan adjusts. Thermal exposure protocols get tightened, low-visibility procedures move from optional to standard, and the weather-window conversation happens with the operator before the crew rolls, not once they arrive on site. Fall dives plan around the water and the daylight, not against them.

Our crews mobilize out of Rapid City, South Dakota, for nationwide projects, but you can live anywhere in the US. We hire for talent and fit, not zip codes.

What travel looks like:

🔹 Consistent 6-to-8-week rotations on the road.

What we're looking for:

🔹 Dive diploma from an ADCI-accredited school (required)

The first day of fall is the honest cutoff for scheduling planned underwater work before the calendar closes. Weather windows narrow through October and November, surface access on many inland sites shifts as temperatures drop, and work that was routine in September becomes a mobilization conversation by mid-November.

Public agencies running fiscal years on October or July cycles are already framing next year's capital plan. Inspection results captured this fall become the condition-of-record for the November budget meeting and the spring construction season that follows. Water utilities spend most of their inspection budget on the storage side of the system: tanks, treatment plant, distribution network. The source-water side is often on a longer cycle, but issues at the intake ripple through everything downstream. Reduced flow at a raw water intake shows up first as pressure issues at the plant, then as unplanned pump work or water quality shifts customers eventually notice.

Winter closes the operating window for a lot of commercial diving crews. Cold-water thermal exposure, ice on wet wells and intakes, and sub-freezing surface conditions push many contractors off inland water sites once temperatures drop. That leaves utility operators, dam managers, and industrial process water plants exposed to whatever needs a diver between November and April.

Midco runs cold-weather commercial diving operations on inland water infrastructure across the northern United States. Water utilities plan the storage tank inspection cycle out on the calendar, however, the distribution side runs on a vastly different pattern. Pipelines, valve chambers, water main tie-ins, and below-water fittings often stay on reactive schedules. Maintenance is only requested after issues surface on the customer end.

Midco's commercial divers also work on distribution systems. Pipeline supports, joint inspections, valve chamber condition surveys, water main tie-in support for planned work, and submerged fitting inspections are completed by our teams. Every dive runs with HD video documentation and written observations provided by the divers and reports crew for ease of integration into a maintenance schedule.
