Raritan Borough Fire Department

Raritan Borough Fire Department Provides fire protection services to the people and businesses of Raritan Borough located Somerset County, New Jersey. We'd be delighted to have you join us!

Ask most people what they'd like to have more of in their lives and they'd probably give you a quick response: more time. For the average person in the Borough of Raritan, there are never enough hours in the day to get everything accomplished. For over 140 years, an extraordinary group of friends and neighbors in Raritan have given thousands of hours of their personal time to keep our town, our ho

mes, and our businesses safe. These are the volunteer members of Relief Hose Company #2, currently twenty-six of your neighbors who respond to over 200 alarms each year. As members of the Raritan Fire Department, we extinguish fires, extricate victims from motor vehicle accidents, and handle a wide variety of calls for assistance, including smoke investigations, gas leaks, electrical emergencies, carbon monoxide alarms, fire alarm activations, and floods. We spend many hours caring for our trucks, tools and equipment to make sure that they're ready for any emergency, and we participate in a variety of fire prevention and community events. And we've logged countless hours of training to keep our professional skills sharp. The members of Relief Hose Company #2 own the firehouse on North Thompson Street, which is our base of operations and houses three of our fire engines. The costs of maintenance, utilities and renovations for this Firehouse are paid for through contributions from our residents and businesses. Every member of Relief Hose Company #2 is a volunteer. We're a completely volunteer organization, giving of our personal time to provide an essential service to our community. Perhaps you've thought about becoming a member. If so, please call at 908-707-8540 or stop by the North Thompson Street Firehouse any Thursday night between 6:30 pm and 9pm. Thank you again for your past and continuing support. We can't do it without you!

Last night continental fire and safety gave us a refresher on our paratech Strut system. This system is used for stabilization during a motor vehicle extrication incident.

Stabilization is the first step in an extrication, securing the car from any unintended movement as parts are removed to get access to the victim.

The training helped reinforce knowledge on the Paratech Struts and gave our firefighters a deeper foundation by understanding the mathematical calculations needed to support the vehicles weight safely.

Last evening, members of 52 Fire traveled to Colonial Motors for an extrication drill. Crews simulated a motor vehicle accident and practiced a variety of techniques to safely remove patients.
Throughout the drill, members worked together to identify the most efficient extrication methods while prioritizing patient safety. A range of tools were utilized, including our hydraulic tools and battery operated power tools. Thank you to Colonial Motors Towing & Recovery for hosting us, we appreciate the opportunity and look forward to returning for future training.

Yesterday 4/2/26 while crews were in house for a department meeting 57 and 52 fire were dispatched into Somerville around 6:30pm for a reported oven fire in an apartment building. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the fire had extended outside the oven and to the room. Engine 52–1 stretched a 200 foot line to the 2nd Floor and quickly extinguished the fire. Simultaneously Ladder 57 laddered the building and put their stick up in case it was needed. Crews were able to help occupants get out of the building as well as assist animals to evacuate. Chief-57 quickly deescalated the assignment and crews cleared. Engine 57-1 and Tower-52 stood by on scene to cover any additional calls in both towns during this incident.

Today around 12:45pm 52 fire was dispatched for an overturned vehicle with reports of people still trapped inside the car. 57 fire was then added to this assignment. Upon arrival crews stabilized the vehicle and were able to remove the patient.
