PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Effective Monday, June 8, 2026, the Colfax County Sheriff’s Office administrative office hours will be temporarily adjusted due to ongoing HVAC issues.

This adjustment applies to office staff only.

Temporary administrative office hours will be:

Monday through Friday
7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) and Fisher Sand and Gravel are scheduled to resume roadway construction in Angel Fire beginning the first week of June, from Mile Marker 272.5 to Mile Marker 276.09 on U.S. 64 through the pass.

Travelers can expect the following:

• Single lane closures with flagging and/or pilot car operations during construction hours
• Delays resulting in longer travel times
• Road closure for up to five hours during at least two construction days

Dates for the road closures are pending and contingent on weather. Fisher Sand & Gravel and NMDOT will provide the public with dates as soon as they are confirmed. Fisher Sand & Gravel and NMDOT thank the public for their patience and cooperation throughout the duration of this project.

The previously closed roadway is now OPEN to all traffic.

While air support continues their operations and emergency crews remain in the vicinity, the immediate travel restrictions have been lifted. We ask that motorists continue to exercise caution:

WATCH FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLES: Crews may still be entering or exiting the roadway.

DO NOT STOP OR LINGER: Please keep traffic moving to ensure responders have the space they need to work.

STAY VIGILANT: Conditions can change quickly; we will notify you if further closures become necessary.

Air support has officially arrived on-site and is actively working to contain the fire. To ensure the safety of our community and the effectiveness of our emergency crews, we have a critical update:

STAY CLEAR: Please avoid the immediate area. Unauthorized individuals or drones can interfere with aerial firefighting efforts and ground operations.

AVOID TRAVEL: Do not travel on roads leading toward the fire. Keep these routes open for emergency vehicles and personnel.

FOLLOW ORDERS: Respect all barricades and instructions from deputies on the scene.

We appreciate your cooperation during this incident. We will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.

⚠️ EMERGENCY TRAFFIC ADVISORY: HIGHWAY 64 CLOSED ⚠️

The Colfax County Sheriff’s Office is issuing an emergency advisory for Highway 64.
A fire has been reported in the area, and the highway is CURRENTLY CLOSED in both directions between Mile Marker 322 and Mile Marker 335.

• Action Required: Please seek alternative routes immediately.

• Status: Fire crews are currently en route to the scene.

• Safety Request: We ask that all motorists avoid the area to reduce traffic congestion and allow emergency responders clear access.
We will provide further updates as the situation develops. Thank you for your cooperation and for keeping our first responders safe.
