On a recent early morning bird walk at the Caw Caw Interpretive Center, participants were treated to the incredible sight of our resident nesting Bald Eagle pair in action.
Naturalist Kristina Wheeler captured this photo just after the eagle heard a piercing call from its mate, presumably to switch out for incubation duties. The eagle in the photo is a male, identifiable because of the metal leg band on the left leg. When the nesting pair are seen together, the smaller size of the banded eagle tells us that it is a male.
If you ever find a bird with a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service or U.S. Geological Survey leg band, you can help support vital research!
