💙💛 A Tahoma tradition: You’re invited to join us for “Thank you, voters!” sign waving between 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, February 12. We will meet in the parking lot outside of House and Hazel.

✅☺️ Bring your smile! Optional: Handmade “Thank you, Tahoma voters!” (or similar) signs.

🪧We will also collect VOTE Yes yard signs during this time. If you have a sign in your yard or placed one in the community, please bring it back to us. If you are not able to attend Thursday, DM us for an alternate location to drop off your sign at a time that works for you.

✨👏Thank you to our Tahoma community for voting to support the renewal of the expiring Educational Programs and Operations Levy; and the renewal of the Technology Levy!

The February 10, 2026 early returns show both proposals passing. These four-year levy measures will maintain funding to support our students, staff, schools and community when the existing levy measures expire.

Because the state does not fully fund education, Tahoma and other school districts must supplement state funding with local levy dollars to cover the funding gap.

We encourage all community members to get involved in our school district! Our students are incredible, and volunteering helps forge relationships and build understanding. Volunteer, join the PTO/PTA at your school, check out the Tahoma Schools Foundation or attend public budget meetings!

📣 As of Monday afternoon, 22.61% of registered voters in the Tahoma School District have returned their ballots, according to King County Elections. Is yours among them? 🧐

In the first levy renewal proposal in 2024, the measure failed by 6️⃣7️⃣ votes. Please be sure your ballot isn't in a pile of mail on the counter, or on the seat of your car!

⭐️ CALL TO ACTION: Check with your friends and neighbors who support Tahoma students, staff, schools and community. Ask them: Did you remember to turn in your ballot?

👉 Did you know that the state of Washington only funds 1.7 school safety officers in our district of nine schools and more than 9,000 students?

🛡️ Local levy dollars help fund an additional 3.3 officers, bringing the total to 5 safety officers.

⭐️ Levy funding also helps pay for secure keycard and buzz-in entry systems, security cameras, I.T. safety and monitoring tools.

✅ Vote YES by February 10 to maintain local levy dollars that help fund safety and security!

🔒 Safety, security and technology are critical areas that are not fully funded by the state and federal government. School districts including Tahoma cover that gap with local levy dollars. 💻

Thank you to teacher Melvin Wells, who shares a few of the reasons that educators and staff are grateful for local levy support, including levy-supported updates to the district’s badge system and updates to the camera system.

“We feel more secure during the day, for sure,” Wells says. “It’s been great the things we’ve been able to do, thanks to community support.”

🏈 Did you know the state does not fund sports? Districtwide, Tahoma has 9️⃣4️⃣ teams and 133 coaches. 💯% of athletic salaries are levy-funded.

Our community has long valued the role that athletics and activities can play in a student’s school career. While students are in school, extracurriculars provide community, friendship, and a sense of belonging. 💙💛 After high school, they also provide potential scholarship and college opportunities. ✨ Participation in these programs teaches discipline, commitment, and helps build new skills, all while keeping students engaged and having fun.

🌟Tahoma student MJ and mom, Mechelle, share why they think zero hour activities are "invaluable."

🏀The opportunity to try new things that they haven't participated in before helps build friendships and gives students the chance to try out a new sport or skill they might love, such as cup stacking, volleyball, basketball or track and field.

Elementary zero hour programs are levy-funded, as are all sports and many activities and clubs at schools across the district. 🎭🎶

On the February 10 ballot, Tahoma has 2️⃣ renewal levy measures to replace expiring measures and continue current funding at the same local school tax rate. Vote YES twice and return your ballot to a King County drop box by February 10!

🤔Did you know that the district has to pay $200,000 to place levy measures on the ballot?

If the renewal levies fail, Tahoma has to pay that cost again, or make difficult funding cuts to levy-supported critical programs and staff, such as sports, activities, safety, nurses, electives, technology, academic supports, the arts and more.

😫In the initial levy renewal attempt in 2024, the Educational Programs & Operations (EPO&O) Levy failed by 6️⃣7️⃣ votes.
