Ravenswood Fire Department

Ravenswood Fire Department The mission of the Ravenswood VFD is to protect life and property through education and service. We strive to provide this in all aspects of customer service.

Pride and commitment are the driving forces to our service to our community. The Ravenswood Volunteer Fire Department has been established to provide fire protection in their district of Ravenswood & Jackson County, as defined. This will reduce the risk within their areas of jurisdiction by taking measures to prevent the outbreak of fires, to limit the extent and severity of fires, to provide for

the removal or rescue of endangered persons, to control and extinguish fires that occur within our jurisdiction, and to perform other emergency response operations and delivery of first responder emergency medical services. This policy describes the role of the Ravenswood Fire Department and outlines the responsibilities, authority, and organizational structure of the department.

๐Ÿš’ Monday Night Training โ€“ 6/1/2026 ๐Ÿš’

Tonight's training focused on hoseline and hydrant operations, providing members with valuable hands-on experience that directly translates to real-world emergency responses.

Engine 20 was utilized to spray off the parking lot next to The Pit at the request of Coach Price in preparation for the start of basketball camp.

Opportunities like this are a win-win for our department and our community. Not only are we able to assist local organizations and programs, but we can also incorporate these activities into practical training that helps keep our members sharp and ready to respond when needed.

Thank you to Coach Price for allowing us the opportunity to assist and train while helping get things ready for another great basketball camp season.

๐Ÿš‘ National CPR & AED Awareness Week 2026 ๐Ÿš‘

June 1 โ€“ June 7, 2026

This week, the Ravenswood Fire Department joins communities across the nation in recognizing National CPR and AED Awareness Week, a time dedicated to highlighting the importance of immediate action during sudden cardiac arrest emergencies.

When a cardiac arrest occurs, survival depends on fast intervention. Every minute without CPR or defibrillation reduces the chance of survival. Thatโ€™s why bystanders become the first link in the chain of survival.

๐Ÿซ€ CPR keeps oxygenated blood moving to the brain and vital organs
โšก An AED can analyze heart rhythm and deliver a lifesaving shock if needed
๐Ÿš‘ Early action saves lives before EMS even arrives

You don't have to be a healthcare provider or first responder to make a differenceโ€”you just need to be willing to act. Learning CPR and how to use an AED can give you the confidence to act during an emergency and potentially save the life of a family member, friend, coworker, or neighbor.

Remember the steps:
๐Ÿ“ž Call 911 immediately
๐Ÿซ€ Start Hands-Only CPR
โšก Use an AED as soon as itโ€™s available
๐Ÿค Continue care until help arrives

Taking a few minutes to learn CPR and AED use could mean everything to someoneโ€™s family, friends, or coworkers.

The Ravenswood Fire Department encourages all residents to get trained, stay aware of AED locations in your community, and be ready to respond.

Be the difference in someoneโ€™s worst moment.

At approximately 2126 hours on May 31, 2026, Station 20 was alerted to the Ohio River at the request of the U.S. Coast Guard for a towboat that had lost power while pushing 15 loaded coal barges downstream.

Units were requested to monitor the area of the bridge in the event the tow and barges continued drifting and posed a risk of striking the structure. Rescue 22, Boat 24, Rescue 23, and Car 20 responded with a total of 9 personnel.

Boat 24 was launched and made contact with the towboat to determine its location and status, while additional personnel remained on standby at Riverfront Park. A responding tugboat was able to assist the disabled vessel, and the tow was safely secured along the Ohio shoreline near Portland, Ohio.

All units remained on scene until the situation was stabilized and cleared shortly after 2300 hours.

Additional responding units included Ripley Volunteer Fire Department, Ravenswood Police Department, Jackson County WV Sheriff's Department, Meigs County Sheriff's Office, and WVDOH.

We would like to thank the U.S. Coast Guard and all responding agencies for their coordinated efforts to ensure the safety of river traffic and the surrounding community.

Something that helps us remember the day of 9/11 are the men and women who participate in gear. We think it is a great way to honor and remember those who ran towards danger and not away from it. This is what our first responders and military continue to do day after day. This year it was brought to our attention that firefighter, Charlie Ayers, from the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, participated in gear and he is 72 years old! Next year we are going to start an award for the oldest firefighter to run or walk in gear! We truly appreciate everyone for your support!

I ran across this picture this morning from our 5K this year. The work Tunnel to Towers does helps us to honor the memory of and to Never Forget all those who give everything for us. Every time we see those in service, I hope we donโ€™t take what they do for granted. Remember, they risk their very lives to help us.

๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ’ฆ End of the Year Celebration at Ravenswood Grade School! ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿš’

Today, May 28, 2026, members of Station 20 took Engine 20 and Tanker 22 to Ravenswood Grade School to help celebrate the students' End of the Year Bash. Crews set up the deck gun and provided a refreshing water spray for the kids to enjoy as they wrapped up another successful school year.

We always appreciate opportunities like these to connect with our community and help make special events even more memorable. Seeing the smiles and excitement on the students' faces made for a great afternoon!

We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and enjoyable summer break! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿš’
