CRITICAL WEATHER UPDATE: JEFFREY CENTER SHELTER

UPDATE: 2230 HOURS

Due to the extended outage, we are moving to the second stage of our emergency shelter plan at the Jeffrey Center and we are now open to all members of the public.

CRITICAL WEATHER UPDATE: JEFFREY CENTER SHELTER

UPDATE: 0647

Carbon County Unified Dispatch Center is back on primary power. Power is actively being restored to Rawlins.

UPDATE: 0352 HOURS

Power has been restored to Sinclair.

UPDATE: 2230 HOURS

Due to the extended outage, we are moving to the second stage of our emergency shelter plan at the Jeffrey Center and we are now open to all members of the public.

TIME: 2047 HOURS

Estimated power restoration has now been pushed back to 2200 per Rocky Mountain Power.

Due to dropping temperatures and our Rawlins community enduring an extended duration without heat, we will be opening the Jeffrey Center located 315 W Pine Street, Rawlins, at 2100 hours (9:00 pm) for families with small children and elderly citizens.

If you are not elderly or a young child, please bundle up as best you can! We are hoping the revised restoration time of 2200 is accurate.

Local government entities have been working throughout the day to assist stranded travelers and individuals with pressing medical needs. SAR volunteers have been assisting in hotel transports and picking up stuck motorists from the interstate.

Search and Rescue personnel will be assisting in manning the Jeffrey Center during this time.

Please contact us with any questions and share this post.

Thank you.

Thank you everyone!

We are currently experienced prolonged power outages and limited transport capability across Rawlins and central Carbon County.

We have established an incident command post and are in communications with partnering county agencies.

Please note that the hospital is open and available for anyone who needs oxygen or power for a medical device. Please know we are here to support your medical needs and provide assistance during this time.
If you need transport to MHCC, please notify the sheriff’s office or Rawlins Police Department. Carbon County SAR volunteers are standing by to help transport.

MHCC Rawlins Family Practice is closed until power is restored.

Please be safe everyone. We will provide updates as often as we can!

February is American Heart Month, and Carbon County Public Health is encouraging everyone to prioritize their cardiovascular health. Heart disease remains a leading cause of death, but the good news is that many risks can be managed with small, intentional changes. Whether it’s choosing a brisk walk outside in our beautiful landscapes, swapping salt for herbs in your favorite chili recipe, scheduling a blood pressure check, or checking out a blood pressure kit at your local library, every action counts. This month, let’s commit to protecting our hearts so we can keep enjoying everything life has to offer.

The holidays can be a joyful time, but they can also bring a lot of stress. Here are some ways to manage stress and make the most of the season:

1. Plan Ahead: Create a schedule for your holiday activities and stick to it. This helps avoid last-minute chaos.

2. Set Realistic Expectations: It’s okay if everything isn’t perfect. Focus on enjoying the moment, not perfection.

3. Budget Wisely: Avoid overspending by setting a budget for gifts, meals, and activities.

4. Take Care of Yourself: Make time for exercise, healthy eating, and enough sleep. Your well-being matters.

5. Practice Mindfulness: Take a few minutes each day to breathe deeply, meditate, or simply relax.

Remember, the holidays are about joy and connection. Take care of yourself and enjoy the season!
