As wildfire conditions improve, the State Forester burn ban has been lifted in all counties.

đź”— Executive Order: https://gatrees.org/resources/executive-order-lifting-burn-ban-and-state-of-emergency-in-17-counties/

This is welcome progress—and a testament to the incredible work of wildland firefighters, first responders, and partner agencies who have worked around the clock over the past several weeks.

⚠️ A few important reminders:
➡️ While the State Forester’s wildfire burn ban has been lifted, some counties may still have local burn restrictions or ordinances in place. Always check with local officials before conducting outdoor burning.
➡️ The Georgia EPD summer burn ban is still in effect for 54 counties, primarily in and around metro Atlanta, through October 1. That seasonal restriction remains in place regardless of current wildfire conditions.
➡️ Even with improved conditions, parts of Georgia remain dry, and wildfire risk has not disappeared. It still only takes one spark to start a wildfire.

We’re grateful for the progress being made—and for every Georgian who helped by taking precautions, following restrictions, and supporting wildfire response efforts.

LEVEL 1 DROUGHT RESPONSE

On April 27, 2026, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) declared a statewide Level 1 Drought Response due to dry conditions and wildfires. Public water systems must initiate educational campaigns about water conservation, though no mandatory restrictions on water usage are currently imposed. Outdoor watering is still permitted between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m..

Level 1 Drought Response Key Details (As of April 2026):
Purpose: To raise awareness of low water levels and encourage voluntary conservation efforts.
Watering Hours: General outdoor watering is allowed daily, but restricted to the hours of 4 p.m. to 10 a.m.

Exemptions: Personal food gardens, drip irrigation, and newly installed, 30-day, or repaired landscapes can still be watered anytime.

Actions: Local water utilities will likely issue public notifications on social media, in news reports, or via bill inserts, as announced by the Georgia EPD.

Next Steps: If conditions do not improve, this could lead to more severe Level 2 or 3 restrictions, as detailed in this Augusta Chronicle report.
Residents are encouraged to check for leaks and use water wisely to avoid stricter future restrictions

Our area is extremely dry and in desperate need of rain. Outdoor burning poses a serious fire risk and is strongly discouraged until conditions change.

Due to low humidity and dry ground conditions, burning is not safe at this time. Fire officials ask everyone to please refrain from burning until weather and ground conditions improve. Waiting to burn helps keep you and our first responders safe. Thank you!
