On Friday, May 22, 2026, just after 6:00 p.m., the Mariaville Fire Department responded to 266 Peninsula Drive in Mariaville for a reported structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the structure fully involved, with the fire spreading into the surrounding wooded area. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to investigate the cause of the fire. No occupants were home at the time of the incident.

Through the review of camera footage, investigators determined the fire originated in the attached garage area and believe it may have been caused by a lithium-ion battery. The fire has been officially classified as accidental.

No injuries were reported. Two cats remain missing at this time.

Throughout this weekend, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

Memorial Day is more than the start of summer, it is a time of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who never made it home.

As you gather with family and friends this weekend, please take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day.

As we close out this National EMS Week, it sure feels a little heavier here in Maine.

Over the last several days, our first responder community has experienced heartbreaking loss. We mourn alongside the families, friends, coworkers, and agencies affected by the loss of a Maine Firefighter, a respected Maine Game Warden lost in the line of duty, and another Firefighter who made the ultimate sacrifice at a fire scene.

These tragedies remind us how connected the public safety family truly is across our state.

During National EMS Week, we especially want to recognize our EMS professionals who continue to answer the call, no matter the hour, the weather, the stress, or the emotion carried from one incident to the next.

From the dispatcher answering the first 911 call…
to the EMTs and Paramedics responding to medical emergencies…
to the firefighters, law enforcement officers, game wardens, and rescue personnel standing beside them…

Thank you.

This week has been a reminder that behind every uniform is a person, a family, and a team carrying both the weight of service and the responsibility to continue showing up for others.

To all Maine first responders: please continue to check in on one another, support one another, and take care of yourselves as much as you take care of the communities you serve.

Crews doing some pump refresher yesterday. Despite running eight emergencies including an outside fire, medicals, mutual aid, car crash, and two calls for structure fires.
