Many stores will still send promotional ads and coupons – be sure not to overlook this “junk mail” – you could always find hidden savings! Searching online for coupons is also a great habit. Review your physical coupons at least once a month to throw out any that have expired.

Beans are a unique food in that they can fit into two different food groups on MyPlate – vegetable and protein. They provide nutrients from both food groups, including protein, iron, zinc, dietary fiber, folate, and potassium. Generally, for individuals who eat meat, poultry, and fish – beans fall into the vegetable group. Vegetarians, vegans, and individuals who rarely eat meats would count some beans in the protein group.

Eating vegetables provides us with many health benefits. Notable, vegetables such as Spinach, Brussel Sprouts and Broccoli are important sources of Vitamins A and C. Vitamin A keeps eyes and skin healthy and helps to protect against infections. Vitamin C helps heal cuts and wounds and keeps teeth and gums healthy.

Vegetables can come in many forms, including fresh, canned, and frozen. Don’t forget to compare prices – canned and frozen items can sometimes be less expensive than fresh. If you choose a canned item – look for ones with “low sodium” or “no salt added” on the label.
