Today, October 9th, is National Fire Prevention Day! Fire prevention can be described as preventing, educating, and enforcing.

Every year The Fire Marshal and staff conduct different type of inspections to make sure fire codes, and safety regulations are followed. As of this post, 588 inspections have been completed this year.

The Raymore-Peculiar School District, along with numerous other schools/daycares allow us to come in during Fire Prevention Week to talk about fire safety. This week alone nearly 500 students and teachers were reached about safety.

This year we had a special surprise at Raymore Elementary Tigers school in Raymore. After presenting to the third graders, the fifth graders presented us with a Phoenix bird made by the students in remembrance of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. This bird they gave us represents “rising from the ashes”. THANK YOU TIGERS!!!!

Happy Labor Day!!!!

While most are enjoying a three-day holiday weekend, C-shift is working. In the last 24 hours they have responded to 33 incidents, with 16 of them coming in during 9-11 last night.

Orange ozone alert day today!! Stay safe and if you have breathing problems, today is the day to stay inside.

Air quality alert: Your safety checklist from the NWS:

- Stay inside if possible, particularly if you have respiratory concerns or other health problems, or are a senior or child.

- If you must go out, try to limit the amount of time you are out to strictly essential activities.

-Minimize your use of items that increase pollution, such as cars, gas-powered lawnmowers, and other vehicles.

- Do not burn debris or other items during an air quality alert.

Today marks a couple significant milestones. First, we celebrate this group of new recruits completing their academy and joining the Fire district. Second, this recruit class signifies the Fire District increasing staffing and meeting NFPA standards. None of this would be possible without the continued support of our communities and residents with the passage of our ballot initiative this past April.

We look forward to these recruits starting on their assigned shifts next week and beginning careers with us.
