There is a new sculpture at City hall from the artist Howard Russo. This piece is from an art sharing program named Creative Communities Alliance, where communities can select sculptures for public display for up to two years and costs $1,000 per year. This new piece named “Beach Ball” will remain at City hall until May 2028. Howard traveled from Chicago Illinois to deliver and install this new piece.

We will keep you posted on our next art installation coming in a couple of weeks!

The Raytown Parks Department in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Conservation have completed the work on our 2025 TRIM Grant. Urban Tree Specialists removed a total of 9 trees in several parks and along the Rock Island Trail. We replaced those trees with 15 Redbud, 6 Burr Oak, and 4 Juniper, Eastern Red Cedar. Total cost of the tree work in the grant project was $17,556.96, which is reimbursed at a 90% rate by MDC! Raytown Parks will be reimbursed $15,084.

These TRIM Grant projects remove dangerous trees in the Parks system, trims damaged tree limbs, treats Ash trees infected with Emerald Ash borers, and replaces removed trees with new trees at a rate of 2-1. With this work we have a healthier tree inventory in the city of Raytown, and have much less storm damage than we have experienced in the past by keeping up with our tree maintenance. Another benefit to receiving this generous grant from MDC is using this work as part of our Tree City USA application through the Arbor Day Foundation. Raytown has now been awarded a Tree City USA designation for the last 24 years in a row.

Thank you to the Missouri Dept. of Conservation, and our Urban Forester contact Mr. Charles Conner for his help with the TRIM Grant, and to Parks maintenance staff in applying for, and completing their work on the project.
