FIRE BEHAVIOR & GROWTH 🔥
Did you know that fire changes dramatically from the moment it starts?
Fire doesn’t stay small for long. As heat, smoke, and combustible gases build up, conditions can rapidly become deadly.
🔥 Incipient Stage
The fire has just started. Flames may appear small, but heat, smoke, and toxic gases are already being produced.
🔥 Growth Stage
The fire spreads to nearby materials. Temperatures rise rapidly, smoke thickens, and dangerous conditions begin to develop.
⚠️ Flashover
During a flashover, nearly all combustible materials in a room ignite almost simultaneously due to extreme heat. This is one of the most dangerous fire events firefighters face.
🔥 Fully Developed Stage
The fire reaches its maximum intensity. Heat is extreme, structural damage increases, and collapse becomes a serious concern.
🔥 Decay Stage
The fire begins to consume available fuel or oxygen. Even though flames may decrease, dangerous heat and combustible gases can remain trapped inside.
⚠️ Backdraft
A ventilation-limited fire can become oxygen-starved while hot combustible gases continue to build up. If fresh air is suddenly introduced, rapid fire growth or a backdraft may occur.
