🧐We get a lot of questions throughout the year from parish residents and business owners, so we're sharing some of them below:
❓"WHAT DO YOU DO?"
Our main concern is keeping the Emergency Call Center for Richland Parish working smoothly & and staying updated. We maintain their 911 call-taking & texting equipment, mapping, recorders, and computer aided dispatch (CAD) system
Updating your address is a small portion of this, but that info is very useful for the dispatchers
❓"WHERE DO MOST OF THE 9-1-1 CALLS COME FROM?"
As expected, the Holly Ridge/Bee Bayou area has bumped to the #1 spot with the construction of the meta site. Since January 1, here's a breakdown of the areas of Richland Parish where 9-1-1 calls were dispatched to:
30% Holly Ridge/Bee Bayou area
22% Rayville/Start area
18% Mangham/Columbia area
16% Dunn/Delhi area
14% Unverified addresses across the parish
❓"HOW DOES A 9-1-1 CALL "KNOW" TO GO TO RICHLAND PARISH AND NOT THE SURROUNDING ONES?"
Think of it as an invisible fence surrounding the parish, called a geofence. Cell towers are strategically placed around the parish, and if the call hits a tower and fits within the fence, it's sent to our call-takers
❓"WHO ANSWERS THE 9-1-1 CALLS?"
In our parish, we have a single Emergency Call Center, so all 9-1-1 calls are sent to that center and transferred to another agency and/or dispatched from there. The Call Center is located in Rayville and staffed by the Richland Parish Sheriff's Office. There are 2 per shift, and it is manned 24/7/365
❓"WHAT'S THE MOST COMMON TYPE OF 9-1-1 CALL YOU RECEIVE?"
Since January 1, medical emergencies, stranded motorists/keylocks and auto accidents make up a large portion of the calls
