The new Link microtransit service is now LIVE in Reading and The Town of Wakefield, MA - Government!

This free, on-demand, all-electric regional shuttle service provides convenient, door-to-door transportation to community members within Reading and Wakefield. You can use it when you’re meeting friends for lunch, shopping downtown, heading to the MBTA station, going to an appointment, attending a community event, and more. Plus, Reading/Wakefield riders can also use The Link to go to Wi******er Hospital and Lahey Clinic in Burlington. This innovative service is made possible through the Massachusetts Department of Transportation's Micro Transit and Last-Mile Transit Grant Program and is operated by Circuit.

We’ll have three vehicles on the Reading-Wakefield route. Please note: the ADA-accessible van is currently unavailable; it’s still getting registered, but will be on The Link roster later this week!

Earlier today, officials from Reading and Wakefield launched The Link with a ribbon cutting event in Wakefield. We were joined by members of the Reading Select Board, Wakefield Town Council, Representative Donald H. Wong, State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian, State Representative Brad Jones, State Representative Richard M. Haggerty, and representatives from Senator Jason Lewis’ office, along with representatives from MassDOT and our vendor partner Circuit to mark this exciting regional partnership.

Registration is now open for our Fall Recreation programs at www.readingrec.com with Reading Community Services

You may notice that a few of the programs you are used to seeing are not currently listed. Reading Recreation is going through a few staffing changes, which will temporarily limit the number of programs we are currently able to offer and oversee.

You will still find many of our staple programs available, including SNL Flag Football, Sunday Basketball and Junior League Basketball, Special Skates, Adult Leagues, Sports Clinics, and the *Nashoba Valley Ski & Snowboard Program.

*Please note that registration for the Nashoba Valley Ski & Snowboard Program will open on October 14 at 8:00AM.

We look forward to getting back to our full schedule of programming as soon as possible and continuing to provide quality recreation opportunities for the Reading community.

Update from Town Manager Jayne Wellman about some paving work on Haven Street. Our DPW Highway Division paved one side of Haven. The other side was paved last year by National Grid after some underground work. Our crew is doing an excellent job fixing this section of roadway in house.

Please be advised that beginning on Thursday, August 27th, 2026 at 7:00 A.M., weather permitting, Lazaro Paving Corp. will be paving Hemlock Road and Pine Ridge Road. The paving operation is expected to take two (2) days to complete.

Delays, detours, and road closures should be expected. If you need your vehicle during this time, please relocate it to a street outside of the work zone. Also, all on-street parking will be prohibited and strictly enforced by the Reading Police Department.

If work is occurring on your scheduled trash day, please have your trash and recycling at the curb no later than 6:30 A.M. to ensure pickup.
