Last night the Reading Police and Fire Departments held their annual badge pinning, promotion, and awards night. New firefighters and newly promoted officers were presented with their badges, and many members were honored — from 20- and 25-year service recognitions to meritorious and outstanding conduct awards, unit citations, and several EMS lifesaving honors. A great evening to celebrate and thank both departments for their dedication every day.

Just after 8pm last night, units were dispatched to a vehicle off the road in the area of Walkers Brook Drive. Crews arrived to find a single vehicle 15 feet into the woods, down an embankment with 1 occupant still inside. The crews at the scene used a rope system to assist with removing the patient up a steep grade. The patient was then transported to a trauma center by Reading Fire Paramedics.
