🚫 There will be NO street sweeping Friday.

⚽️ The Official Pennsylvania World Cup Fan Zone is coming to Downtown Reading this July!

Today, Mayor Eddie Moran joined representatives from Philadelphia Soccer 2026, and Experience Berks at Reading Arena to share details about four FREE World Cup Fan Zone events happening in Downtown Reading.

Fans can enjoy:
✅ World Cup matches on the giant screen inside Santander Arena
✅ A Penn Street Block Party
✅ Live music and entertainment
✅ Food vendors
✅ Interactive soccer activities
✅ Family-friendly fun for all ages

🎶 Confirmed performers include:
• Go Go Gadjet – July 3
• The Main Squeeze – July 18
• Ax and the Hatchetmen – July 19
• Sugar Ray – July 19

⚽ Volunteers Needed for World Cup Fan Zone Watch Parties!

Are you passionate about Berks County and love sharing what makes our community special? We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help welcome visitors and residents to our World Cup Fan Zone Watch Parties this summer!

⏰ Volunteers can sign up for a minimum 2-hour shift.

📅 Volunteer Dates & Times:
• July 3 | 12 PM – 9 PM
• July 4 | 11 AM – 6 PM

The City of Reading is saddened by the passing of former Fire Chief William H. Rehr III.

Chief Rehr dedicated more than 50 years of service to the Reading Fire Department and spent his career working to make our community safer. His contributions included helping bring the 911 emergency system to Berks County and serving as Reading's Fire Chief from 1996 until his retirement in 2011.

Bill was respected throughout the fire service for his leadership, dedication, and commitment to the people of Reading. Even after retirement, he remained active in preserving the history of firefighting through his work with the Reading Area Fire Museum.

On behalf of the City of Reading, I extend my condolences to his wife, Patricia, his family, friends, and the many firefighters who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

With visitation and funeral services taking place Sunday and Monday, the City will honor Chief Rehr's memory by illuminating City Hall in red on June 6, 7, and 8. While the Pagoda is always lit red, those evenings will also serve as a tribute to Chief Rehr and his lasting impact on the City of Reading.

We thank him for his service and will honor the legacy he leaves behind.

History rolled through Downtown Reading today as the Annual Mid-Atlantic Air Museum World War II Mid-Day Parade returned to Penn Street.

Residents and visitors enjoyed historic military vehicles, reenactors, live music from the Snack Club Quartet, and a unique opportunity to experience a piece of living history right in the heart of our city.

Thank you to the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, volunteers, participants, and everyone who came downtown to help kick off the 35th Annual World War II Weekend.

Tonight through Friday, City Hall will be illuminated in orange in recognition of Gun Violence Prevention Month.

Gun violence impacts communities across the country, including our own. By lighting City Hall orange, we join organizations, survivors, families, and advocates in raising awareness and honoring those whose lives have been affected by gun violence.

Together, we can continue working toward safer neighborhoods, stronger communities, and a future free from violence.
