September is here, and Hispanic Heritage Month is right around the corner!

I’m here with Rosa Julia Parra from Palo Magazine at Goggleworks Center for the Arts in Downtown Reading, getting ready for the 2nd Annual El Boricuazo on Saturday, September 19th!

Come out with your family and friends and help us celebrate Puerto Rican culture, music, food, traditions, and our amazing Boricua community right here in Reading.

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day, a day to remember those we’ve lost to overdose, support those in recovery, and continue the conversation around prevention and treatment.

Mayor Eddie Moran joined Council President Reed, Senator Judy Schwank, Berks County Commissioner & SOS Berks Co-Chair Michael Rivera, Council On Chemical Abuse (COCA), SOS Berks, and community members at City Park for today’s flag raising.

The flag will fly for the next seven days in remembrance of those we’ve lost and as a reminder that resources and support are available for individuals and families affected by substance use.

Thank you to everyone who continues to do this work in our community.

The memorial service will honor all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, with a special focus on the 343 New York City firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to the attacks.

FYI:

Calling out a specific planned PennDot road project due to the significance of the impacts it will have in the Reading metro area...

PennDot advises that the right lane of 422 EB between Lancaster Ave and I-176 will be closed from 7PM tonight (8/21) through 6 AM next Tuesday (8/25) to permit bridge repairs.

This is going to create lengthy and difficult traffic issues on this roadway, but we all know that it is critical to get this bridge deck worked on. Please plan extra time, find alternative routes, and look up how to zipper merge for everyone’s sanity! It will be bad, but it will be short, so please show some love and understanding for the crews doing the work and your fellow drivers.
