🦟 Help prevent mosquito-borne illnesses in our community.

As mosquito activity continues, there are simple steps you can take to protect yourself and your family:

• Stay indoors when possible from dusk to dawn, when mosquitoes are most active.
• Wear long sleeves, pants and closed-toed shoes when outdoors.
• Use insect repellent, including products containing at least 30% DEET.
• Eliminate standing water around your property. Birdbaths, wheelbarrows, toys and other containers can become breeding grounds. Remember, water that sits for more than four days can begin to breed mosquitoes.

A few simple precautions can go a long way toward keeping our community safe. 🦟

Our Public Works crews work hard to keep Reading clean. You can help keep them safe.

Please bag your trash securely, wrap or label broken glass and other sharp objects, and never place loose needles or hazardous materials in your trash.

A few extra seconds can prevent a serious injury. Thank you to WFMZ for helping share this important reminder.

We need your help keeping our waste management crews safe from injury! We have had several recent injuries to our Public Works staff and to our contracted hauler, Republic Services staff. These injuries required medical care and time off for recovery. Please be careful with how you dispose of sharp and/or heavy items. If you aren't sure how to dispose of an item, you can use the Recycle Coach app, email us at [email protected], or call us at 877-727-3234.
Trash cans are best- please keep below 50 lbs. to prevent injuries. If you use trash bags, please make sure to use "outdoor" bags that are thicker and help reduce tears.
