This Sunday, May 24, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) will host a Fish for Free day to allow anyone (resident or non-resident) to legally fish on all Pennsylvania waterways. No license is required, but all other fishing regulations still apply.

This is the first of two dates set by the PFBC to enhance fishing opportunities. The next day is Independence Day, Saturday, July 4. This is a great way to expose the next generation of anglers to the outdoors. More information about fishing in Pennsylvania is available here: https://www.pa.gov/agencies/fishandboat

As Pennsylvanians head to the water this summer, I want to remind you to be safe when boating. Safety is the most important consideration in any boating activity. Knowing the water and what to expect on the water, and having and using the right equipment is the best start for success on the water.

Congratulations to Benjamin Bansner on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in Scouting America. For his community service project, Benjamin led the complete rebuilding of a 20-foot bridge at Blue Marsh Lake in Berks County. The restored structure serves hikers, cyclists and equestrians who rely on the trail system for recreation and access to the lake’s natural areas. This project required careful planning and the coordination of volunteers to ensure the bridge is safe and functional for all trail users for years to come.

I was honored to attend his court of honor and present him with a House of Representatives citation recognizing this significant accomplishment.

I joined fellow lawmakers, farmers and agriculture advocates at the Capitol for the fourth annual Blessing of the Balers and May is Beef Month celebration. Balers received prayers in hopes of a productive hay season, and proclamations were presented to agricultural organizations in recognition of the state’s critically important beef and animal protein industry
