I’m calling on the Shapiro administration to withdraw proposed Department of Health regulations reminiscent of COVID lockdown-era government policy that would infringe upon constitutional norms and civil liberties. You can join me by submitting your feedback.

As proposed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the regulations would allow government officials to institute school or community mask mandates, enter private residences without warrants and seek private health information without consent. The department also would have the authority to enter any school building to interview a student of any age in private, without notification to the parent or guardian, to gather information for contact tracing and partner services.

The public can submit comments on the proposed regulations through Sept. 21 by emailing [email protected]. Please reference Rulemaking #10-242: Communicable and Noncommunicable Diseases; IRRC #3490.

Tomorrow, I will take part in an historic session of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

In honor of the nation’s 250th birthday – and the foundational role Pennsylvania has played in our nation’s development – the House will convene legislative session in Philadelphia’s historic Congress Hall. The hall once served as the meeting place of the United States Congress, from 1790-1800.

Join me for a public meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 22, to address community concerns regarding Pennsylvania Route 183. Representatives from the Berks County Planning Commission, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Bern Township Police Department and local municipalities will be available to hear residents’ concerns and answer questions.

The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Reading Regional Airport, 24 Liberator Way, Reading. RSVPs are required. Residents interested in attending should call my district office at 610-378-4407 or email [email protected] to RSVP.

Here is a look at events in the district being held in honor of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. I encourage everyone to try and make it out to at least one of these events.

City of Reading and Reading Fire Department Remembrance Ceremony:
The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. at the Sept. 11 Memorial Tree in City Park. It will feature Fire Chief Robert Leonard II, Mayor Eddie Morán and other officials. It will be streamed on the city’s page, Municipal Access Channel and BCTV. In case of bad weather, it will move to City Hall Council Chambers.

Berks County 9/11 25 Year Remembrance Ceremony:
Berks County will hold its ceremony from 10-11 a.m. outside the Berks County Services Center. The program includes remarks, the presentation of the colors, the national anthem, an invocation, speakers, a brass bell ringing and “God Bless America.” If it rains, the event will move to the building’s second-floor auditorium.

Fifth Annual Hamburg Area School District Military and First Responders Appreciation Event:
A free pregame tailgate for military members, first responders and their immediate families begins at 4 p.m. at Hamburg Area High School. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with displays from military, law enforcement, fire and EMS agencies, and local businesses. Admission is free with valid ID.

Reading City Hall and the Pagoda Lighting:
Reading City Hall and the Pagoda will be lit red, white and blue in honor of those lost and to recognize national unity.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) are inviting public input about their draft 2025-2035 Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan.

The draft plan and public comment form are available online. Comments must be submitted by Sept. 19.

According to the agencies, the Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan was first developed in 2005 and has since served as the Commonwealth’s blueprint “to conserve Pennsylvania’s native fish and wildlife, maintain resilient habitat, and protect and enhance Species of Greatest Conservation Need.” As required by Congress, state wildlife action plans must be revised no less than every 10 years.

A wildlife action plan approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is required for states to receive State and Tribal Wildlife Grant Program funds. The Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan is scheduled to be delivered to the USFWS by Oct. 1.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is warning veterans and their spouses about a postcard promising extra monthly benefits. But the “Veterans Savings Program” mentioned in the postcard doesn’t actually exist. It’s just a scammer phishing for personal or financial information.

While the postcard might list the state you’re living in and mention real VA benefits like CHAMPVA or TRICARE For Life, those programs are just being mentioned in an effort to make the mailing look legitimate and trick veterans into sharing personal information like your Social Security number or bank account details.

If you get a postcard like this:
• Don’t respond. Legitimate VA communications will not pressure you to respond immediately or give sensitive information over the phone.
• Contact the VA directly if you have questions about your benefits. Always use a number you know is real, never the one on the postcard. Start with the VA Benefits Hotline at 1-800-827-1000.
• Spread the word. Scammers typically don’t just contact one person. Sharing this advice can help others in your community spot and avoid the scam. Sign up for email updates to get the latest on scams like this one at MilitaryConsumer.gov.

If you spot this or another VA benefits scam, report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and to the VA at VSAFE.gov or 1-833-38V-SAFE.

If you find yourself in Harrisburg this month, I hope you’ll take a moment to visit the PA House of Representatives Archives’ exhibit commemorating Sept. 11. It’s a powerful reminder of the lives we lost, the heroes who stepped forward and the way our nation came together in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

This exhibit will specifically highlight pieces of memorabilia from the Flight 93 site, such as silverware, pieces of plane wreckage, name badges from investigators, and tributes from family members and visitors to the site. Additionally, there will be a display featuring the response from the PA General Assembly outside the Majority Caucus Room near the Main Rotunda of the Capitol Building.
