Matt Stitzel for Berks County Coroner 2025

Matt Stitzel for Berks County Coroner 2025 "I've dedicated my life to serving our community with integrity and compassion. I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Berks County Coroner's Office."

Matt Stitzel As someone who grew up in Berks County, I am deeply committed to serving my local community. My career as a respected local funeral director and former volunteer firefighter has given me the proper foundation for stepping into the role of Berks County Coroner. My vision for the role is rooted in my experience with community care, a strong work ethic, and a hands-on approach to making

a real difference.

If elected, I plan to shift the focus of the Coroner back to personal involvement in the daily duties of the role. I will ensure that every case receives the personal attention it deserves, and that the community receives the high standard of care it has the right to expect. I want to bring a fresh perspective to the office and work tirelessly to serve with integrity, compassion, and dedication. I grew up in Lincoln Park with my parents, Richard and Mary Anne Stitzel, and three sisters. I graduated from Holy Name High School before furthering my education by earning a Bachelor’s degree from Wilkes University. I, then earned my degree in applied sciences from Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science. In addition to owning and operating two funeral homes, I have been active in my community in various roles. I served as a little league coach for Spring Township for many years and was an active firefighter and engineer with Spring Township and Goodwill (Muhlenberg Township) Fire Companies.

I live in Spring Township with my wife Becky and four children: Sarah, Jacob, Ethan, and Matthew James.

On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) convened a Safety, Security, and Emergency Management Roundtable with school superintendents and CTC directors, bringing together education and public safety leaders from across Berks County.

The discussion featured District Attorney John Adams, Brian Gottschall, Director of the Berks County Department of Emergency Services, Sheriff Mandy Miller, and Coroner Matthew Stitzel, and focused on current safety priorities, emerging trends, emergency response protocols, and strengthening collaboration to ensure safe schools and communities.

The BCIU is grateful for the continued partnership and shared commitment to keeping Berks County schools—and the communities served—safe.

I believe I might have missed a few signs around Berks County. If anyone sees any of my signs on public property or along roads, please remove them or text me where they are at so that I can. Happy to pick them up from you or they can be dropped off at either funeral home or my house.
Thanks again.

It’s Official !

As of Friday afternoon, Berks County has certified the primary election results, and I’m honored to announce that I’ve received enough votes to appear on both the Republican and Democratic tickets for Berks County Coroner in the general election this November.

First and foremost, I want to thank my wife, children, extended family, and coworkers for their unwavering support throughout this campaign.

I’m grateful for all those who supported me — including those who circulated petitions, donated, displayed yard signs, shared my posts, attended my fundraiser, or worked the polls on Election Day. Thank you. Your time, energy, and commitment truly made a difference.

A special thank-you to every voter who took time out of their busy day to cast a vote for me. Your trust means more than I can express, and I’m humbled to have earned your support.

I also want to extend my sincere appreciation to my opponent, John Fielding, for his candidacy and his service to Berks County.

I’m excited for what’s ahead — let’s keep the momentum going.

On to November!

Warm regards,
Matthew J. Stitzel
