- When we rely on shame or fear based tactics to teach s*xual health, we often create a damaging narrative that prevents safety, leads to risky behavior and keeps youth uninformed about their bodies.

The Impact of Shame-Based Education is that it creates vulnerabilities, stigma, and hinders safety.

*xEdForAll - Here in PA, schools are not required to teach s*x education.

From :

“Schools in Pennsylvania are not required to teach s*x education. Pennsylvania Constitutional Statutes Title 22 § 4.29, however, require primary, intermediate, middle, and high schools to teach s*xually transmitted disease (STD), including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), education. Primary schools are allowed to omit instruction on the s*xual methods of disease transmission. Schools must use materials that have been determined by the local school district to be age-appropriate, discuss prevention, and stress abstinence as “the only completely reliable means of preventing s*xual transmission.”

School districts must publicize the fact that parents and guardians can review all curriculum materials. Parents and guardians whose principles or religious beliefs conflict with instruction may excuse their children from the programs. This is referred to as an “opt-out” policy.

- Apparently somebody at some point thought this was a good idea… using 🐦 birds, 🐝 bees to explain human reproductive health —instead of… actual science. 😂

But here’s the thing: “the birds and the bees” was just another way of disguising what we really should be talking about. Young people deserve real, honest, age-appropriate information about their bodies, relationships, consent, and health.

May is S*x Ed For All Month — a reminder that
Comprehensive s*x education equips young people to make healthy choices.

Sure, teach the birds and the bees… but throw in some anatomy, consent, birth control, communication, and facts. 💛
