We were awarded a $10,264 Schuylkill Highlands Conservation Landscape grant!! This grant will help fund the construction of a stone staircase that will connect two existing trails on Neversink Mountain Preserve. Once complete, this new trail connection will provide a sustainable, accessible route and give visitors an additional loop option to explore the preserve!

The Schuylkill Highlands Conservation Landscape is focused on connecting residents and visitors to the outdoors, supporting local partnerships that create regional impact, and more! We are grateful for this opportunity to connect trails and our community to the outdoors.

Eco-Camp has come to an end, and what a great summer it has been!

Our campers spent the latter of the summer season exploring themed weeks like reptiles & feathered friends, farm & garden, and wonders of water. They met some amazing animals, searched for wildlife, harvested vegetables and discovered how much life there is in our local streams!

We hope that all the kiddos had a blast, and we will see you again next summer!

For this week's Plastic Free July post, we're sharing tips for keeping microplastics out of your body!

From rainwater to breast milk, microplastics have been showing up everywhere. Unlike organic materials that decompose, plastics simply break into smaller and smaller pieces overtime; this is how microplastics form. Avoiding microplastics altogether isn't realistic, but there are ways to minimize our exposure to and creation of microplastics!

Little swaps like this help, but they aren't accessible to everyone. When it comes to food and clothing, cheaper products (e.g., polyester apparel or highly processed foods) are also the ones with higher microplastic exposure risk. Legislation and industry-wide change in plastic production and recycling are the most equitable solutions to addressing microplastics.

For this week's Plastic Free July post, let's peek into one of our plastic-free lunch boxes!

A lot of these plastic-free solutions are all about packaging - from glass tupperware to beeswax wraps to even baking your own sweet or salty snacks - there are lots of creative ways to avoid plastic in your lunchbox!

Remember, there are no perfect solutions. Not all of these tips will be applicable to your lifestyle or family. But we hope over the course of this year's Plastic Free July Challenge that maybe you'll find just one plastic-free habit that works for you!
