Last night, members of Cocalico Area Fire Department joined forces with Denver Fire Company for a confined space rescue drill hosted at the Pepperidge Farm facility in our community.

Training like this is critical. Confined space rescues — whether inside industrial silos, tanks, or other enclosed structures — are among the most technically complex and dangerous incidents our responders can face. These events don't happen often, but when they do, every second counts and the margin for error is zero. The only way to be ready is to train, and to train hard.

This drill allowed our crews to practice rope rescue techniques, aerial ladder operations, patient packaging and extraction, and multi-agency coordination — all skills that require regular repetition to maintain at the highest level.

A huge thank you to Denver Fire Company for lending your expertise and personnel to make this training as realistic and valuable as possible. The partnership between our companies makes our entire region safer.

And a special thank you to Pepperidge Farm for opening your facility and allowing us to train in a real-world industrial environment. Your commitment to community safety and your willingness to partner with local first responders does not go unnoticed.

We are proud to serve this community — and we will never stop preparing.
