Receives direct or general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. No direct supervision of staff is exercised. May exercise technical and functional direction over assigned staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this classification series are flexibly staffed. This is a multi-level professional classification series in which incumbents may be assigned to either of the two (2) levels, depending upon experience, proficiency gained, and the complexity of assigned functions. An incumbent at the Accounting Technician I level may be promoted to the Accounting Technician II level when work knowledge has been developed, sound work habits demonstrated, and requirements have been met.

Accounting Technician I: This is the entry-level class in the paraprofessional accounting series that performs the full range of technical work in the following areas: accounts receivable and/or accounts payable, in addition to performing a variety of record keeping, reconciliation, and report preparation activities. This class is distinguished from the Accounting Technician II in that the latter provides accounting support and analysis to larger, more complex departments, and operates independently, requiring more experience.

Accounting Technician II: This is the journey-level class in the paraprofessional accounting series that performs technical and analytical accounting support to professional staff in a complex, multi-faceted department. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Accounting Technician III in that the latter provides accounting support and analysis on a County-wide basis.
