Summer Reading is here!!

Starting today (June 1), come to the Library to register and receive your Summer Reading goody bag (toddler-age 13)! This year, we are using iRead’s ‘Plant a Seed, Read!’ theme. We have a reading log for adults and a reading log for kids, so its fun for the whole family!

Both age groups will have grand prize drawings to be entered in – a ‘Grow it yourself’ plant kit, packet of seeds, farm-themed hacky sacks and other bits and bobbles that will be added along the way.

Summer Reading takes place from June 1-June 30. The absolute last day to turn in reading logs and be entered into the prize drawing is July 3 - this gives everyone a chance to turn in their logs😊.

PSSST...Don't forget about our Summer Reading craft days!

We have 18 butterflies to release-don't miss it!

Butterfly Update 5/18/2026:

We walked into a wonderful surprise this afternoon when opening the Library - some of the butterflies have emerged!
So, with that said, release plans have changed...
We were planning to release them at our May 30 Storytime. However, since we can only keep the butteflies for observation for a maximum of 5 days, we have bumped up release date to this Thursday, 5/21. We will release them in Finley Park around 4pm - we are inviting all who are able to come help us release them!

Library Hours Update 5/16/2026.

The Board met and discussed the temporary hours at the Thursday, May 14 meeting. Jamie has returned to work, but is still at limited mobility. Because of that, the Board has decided to remian closed on Fridays, and readdress Friday hours at the June 11 board meeting.

At this time, we are remaining closed on Fridays until further notice (no sooner than June 19). Our Monday-Thursday hours are remaining 12pm-7pm, and Saturday hours 9am-1pm.
No items will be due on Fridays, and no overdue fees will be charged for Fridays (our check-out system is set to reflect this change). ILL delivery remains to be Monday-Thursday during the temporary change in hours. Any books returned in the Drop Box Thursday night/Friday will be received and checked-in on Saturday.

Again, we want to express a huge thank you to all our patrons during this time. You all have been so patient and understanding. We appreciate all of you!

Summer Reading is quickly approaching!
This year, we will be doing our Summer Reading Program in June (June 1-June 30). We have a reading log for toddler-13 years of age, and currently developing a reading log for adults to also participate. We have different crafts scheduled for June 16, June 24, and June 30. We have 2 additional programs in the works (Farmer Chats) for June 17 and June 30. Our ‘Grand Prize’ is having lots of bits and bobbles added to it.
All reading logs will be available beginning May 30 AFTER our Storytime.
Registration for the Summer Reading Crafts are now open – registration is required for ALL crafts (schedule to be posted). You can call the Library, FB message, or use the Google Forms for the specific crafts to register. Go to our Facebook event page for details of each craft. Each craft has a limited number of spots available. Please only register if you know you can absolutely attend! We know things happen, and if (later on) you find out you cannot attend, please let us know so that we might be able to allow another person to attend the craft.
We will be going over all of this, plus more, at our May 30 Storytime/Summer Reading Kick-Off. Register by May 22, and all Toddler-13 years registered will receive a small incentive for the Summer Reading Program. Can’t wait to see you there!
PS: All this information is also on our website! Visit redbudpubliclibrary.weebly.com, hover over menu item ‘Library Events’ and select ‘Reading Events’ from the drop-down.

We are entering Stage 2 of our Butterfly Observation!

Quick recap: we received 4 cups of Painted Lady caterpillars on May 1.

Update on May 9: The caterpillars have tripled in size and are beginning to take there spots at the top of the cup, taking on that 'J' shape and forming their chrysalis - there are already 2 chrysalis this morning!

Once all the caterpillars have made their chrysalis and have hardened (about 3 days), we will very carefully pop the lids off the cups, prop them up in the Butterfly Mesh House, and wait for them to emerge as American Painted Lady butterflies.
Note: There will be nothing but the cup lids, the chrysalis/butterflies, and the plastic stand for the lid in the Mesh House when we transfer.
