WAR was activated again today and proved itself once again how beneficial it is to our county. It’s great seeing all 4 departments in our county working together to get the job done!

We are pleased to announce that on Monday, April 13, the Webster County Automatic Mutual Aid District — nicknamed WAR — was officially established. Going forward, all structure fire incidents within the Red Cloud, Guide Rock, Blue Hill, and Bladen fire districts will be automatically paged to all four departments.

This automatic paging will significantly increase available manpower and equipment, enabling faster control and extinguishment of structure fires. The WAR activation will also be used on Red Flag Warning days to help mitigate the spread of fast-moving wildfires. Faster, coordinated response means better protection for lives and property.

We sincerely thank the Webster County 911 Center and the Red Cloud, Guide Rock, Blue Hill, and Bladen fire departments for their assistance in establishing this mutual aid agreement.

We were asked to host a portion of County Government Day and to have a fire related activity for the students to participate in. The students participated in a relay race and played Jenga with the battery operated Jaws of Life. The winning team of the relay race received a prize to take with them. All the kids participated well and enjoyed themselves!

Unit 24 and our two firefighters made it safely home last night! They were assigned to the Cottonwood Fire near Brady and made a huge contribution in helping prevent further spread of the fire in their working area. The fire command was turned over to the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team and they are only asking for federal resources at this time so our firefighters got to come home early. We thank them for their willingness to help and glad they are home safe!
