🚨 Make It Click — It’s About Saving Lives 🚨

The Webster County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the national “Make It Click” enforcement campaign May 15 – May 31, 2026, with a grant provided by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.

Seat belts save lives every single day. Yet in 2023, 10,484 passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes were NOT wearing seat belts. Even more alarming, 60% of young adults ages 18–34 who were killed in crashes were unbuckled — one of the highest percentages among all age groups.

Don’t take the risk. Buckle up every trip, every time — no excuses.

Webster County Sheriff Department Participates in “Put the Phone Away or Pay” Enforcement Campaign**

The Webster County Sheriff Department would like to thank the Nebraska Highway Safety Office once again for its continued support.

The Sheriff Department recently received a grant to fund additional patrol hours focused on distracted driving enforcement as part of the “Put the Phone Away or Pay” campaign. From April 9–13, 2026, deputies conducted targeted patrols with a specific emphasis on identifying drivers who were using their phones behind the wheel.

During the enforcement period, the Sheriff Department made 66 total contacts through traffic stops, including 24 citations issued. Deputies also made one DUI arrest and apprehended one fugitive during the campaign.

We extend a sincere thank you to those who make grants like this possible. These resources allow law enforcement to dedicate additional time and attention to critical public safety issues and reduce preventable crashes caused by distracted driving.

The Webster County Sheriff Department reminds all motorists: put the phone away while driving. No text, call, or notification is worth the risk. Buckle up, stay focused, and help keep our community safe, or you may pay the price.

We are pleased to announce that on Monday, April 13, the Webster County Automatic Mutual Aid District — nicknamed WAR — was officially established. Going forward, all structure fire incidents within the Red Cloud, Guide Rock, Blue Hill, and Bladen fire districts will be automatically paged to all four departments.

This automatic paging will significantly increase available manpower and equipment, enabling faster control and extinguishment of structure fires. The WAR activation will also be used on Red Flag Warning days to help mitigate the spread of fast-moving wildfires. Faster, coordinated response means better protection for lives and property.

We sincerely thank the Webster County 911 Center and the Red Cloud, Guide Rock, Blue Hill, and Bladen fire departments for their assistance in establishing this mutual aid agreement.
