Red Hook Fire Company Responds to Fire at Red Hook High School
Red Hook, NY – May 29, 2026
At approximately 10:24 a.m. today, the Red Hook Fire Company was dispatched to Red Hook High School for an automatic fire alarm activation.
While responding to the scene, Car 3 was notified by Red Hook Police Department officer that heavy black smoke had been observed coming from a first-floor boys’ bathroom. Based on this information, Car 3 requested that Dutchess County Dispatch upgrade the incident to a full first-alarm assignment, bringing additional mutual aid resources to the scene, including the remaining Red Hook Fire Company apparatus, the Tivoli Fire Department, and the Rhinebeck Fire Department.
Upon arrival, Car 3 made entry into the affected area and encountered heavy smoke while locating the source of the fire. Firefighters quickly contained the fire to the bathroom, with no extension to surrounding areas. The incident was declared under control at approximately 10:45 a.m.
Fire crews remained on scene conducting ventilation operations and monitoring air quality due to the size of the building. Mutual aid departments were released from the scene and returned to service at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Following fire suppression and ventilation efforts, members of the Red Hook and Tivoli Fire Departments assisted school staff and teachers in retrieving personal belongings and supplies from the building. The incident was fully stabilized by approximately 1:50 p.m., at which time the building was turned back over to school officials.
The Red Hook Fire Company would like to thank the Tivoli Fire Department, Rhinebeck Fire Department, Milan Fire Department, Germantown Fire Department, Village of Red Hook Police Department, Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division, and Dutchess County Emergency Response for all of their work.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
