Co.9 dispatched second due with Co.8 for a brush fire on Barrett Rd. While en-route, units were advised that it was a structure fire that has spread into the woods. With that information, Co.11 was added to the call. Brush 9 arrived to find a 20x30 shop already on the ground with approximately 1/2 acre of woods on fire. Units from all three departments contained and extinguished the fire without incident.

At approximately 11:00hrs this morning, Company 9 was dispatched for a MVC into a structure, with entrapment. One patient had self extricated prior to arrival with the other patient needing extrication by fire department members. Engine 9 arrived with 5 members and began stabilization of the structure and vehicle. Patient was removed from the vehicle approximately 10 minutes after arrival.

Co.9 would like to express our appreciation to Midway Baptist Church and the youth participating in the DNOW weekend. These young ladies and gentlemen spend the weekend worshiping and providing community outreach. We had approximately 30 participants at our firehouse cleaning trucks and the building early Saturday morning, along with many other groups at various locations throughout the community.

Co.9 volunteers were dispatched for a structure fire shortly after 04:00 this morning to assist Co.8 and Co.4 fire departments. First arriving units found a small greenhouse on fire with extension into a detached garage. Fire was quickly contained and overhaul was performed before clearing the scene.

Co. 9 volunteers were alerted for a vehicle fire threatening structures last night at 23:42 in our second due area along with Co. 8 Phenix and Co. 11 Brookneal. Engine 9 arrived on scene to find one vehicle and one shed heavily involved and another small building starting to burn. E-9 crew deployed 150' front bumper line and quickly contained and knocked the fire down. Engine 8 arrived and established water supply to E-9. Company 11 and 8 manpower assisted with overhaul. Units operated on scene for approx. one hour before returning to service.

At 15:33 this afternoon, Company 9 was dispatched to a residential structure fire in Brookneal VFD’s first due. First arriving unit found a heavily involved mobile home. Company 9 arrived with Engine 9 and Tanker 9 and assisted with fire attack and extensive overhaul. All units operated for approximately two hours before returning to service.

Your Co.9 volunteers have been busy all week preparing by checking trucks and equipment for the upcoming storm. Tricky travel and power outages seem very likely throughout this event. We urge you to stay off the road if not necessary, and to be extra cautious with generators and heat sources. Please note that 911 is for emergencies only. Please refrain from calling 911 for power outages and trees down. As always, we are here for you. Be safe.
