A fire in 1906, which destroyed many of the businesses on Main Street in Red Springs, was the catalyst which led to the formation of the Red Springs Fire Department. Following the fire, the town purchased a fire engine at a

cost of $1,100 and 500 feet of hose. Cisterns were placed at various points in town to provide water for the fire fighting equipment could throw a stream over the tallest buildings in town. The department was organized with 25 men. Cook was the first fire chief and the equipment was stored at the motor and machine company
on West 3rd Avenue. In 1924, the town purchased a new fire truck. By this time the equipment was housed under a metal structure that was build behind Judge J.N. Buie's office on main street. Judge Buie's office also served as Town Hall. Later a fire house was built beside the Police Station. Bus Singleton donated the property where the present fire station is. The building was built in 1987 and includes 4 truck bays, offices, large meeting room, kitchen, storage, and shower room. The station is equipped with an automatic generator system that provides complete power for the station in times of power outage.

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

To All First Responders The excuses of why you can't attend training have to stop.
Yes, we all have families. Yes, we all have jobs. But when you chose to serve this community, you accepted a responsibility that doesn’t disappear when it becomes inconvenient.
Our neighbors don’t get to schedule their emergencies around your free time.
What if it was your house burning at 2 a.m.?
What if it was your spouse trapped in twisted metal?
What if it was your child needing immediate medical care?
Would you want someone showing up who “already took that class” five years ago?
Or someone who keeps sharpening their skills and pushing themselves to be better?
Complacency will get someone hurt. Maybe one of us. Maybe one of our citizens.
None of us know everything about firefighting, rescue, or EMS. The moment you think you do, you’ve already fallen behind.
This job demands more than bare minimum effort.
It demands discipline.
It demands commitment.
It demands that extra 1% every single day.
If you’re going to wear this patch, then earn it.
Show up.
Train hard.
Hold yourself accountable.
Because lives depend on it.
