Please join us for a webinar to learn about the Permanent School Fund Constitutional Amendment Ballot Measure that will be on Minnesotans’ ballot during the November 3 General Election. LWVMN members will be equipped with basic knowledge about the ballot measure and be able to point voters to appropriate state and local school district sources of information regarding it during our fall voter service work.

Denise Dittrick and Kimberley Dunn Lewis from the MN School Boards Association will present non-partisan information regarding the ballot measure, which passed the Minnesota State legislature this past session with strong bipartisan support.

This webinar will be recorded and posted on YouTube for public viewing. Attendees are encouraged to pose questions in the chat during the webinar for Denise and Kim to answer after the presentation.

School Board Meeting, August 25, 2026
The RW School Board meeting was called to order at 5:00, with Mr. Koenig absent. There were no public comments, and Superintendent Jaszczak started with his comments.
There is community concern regarding the lack of information on bus routes, but those will be available for the Open Houses beginning on Weds. The enrollment is changing daily, (as of noon) the number of students stands with Sunnyside at 257 students, Burnside with 469, TBMS at 489, High School at 781. Currently there will be 49 students in grades 10-12 slated for Tower View. On the topic of Tower View, construction has been delayed but the students will be able to attend, and move about as things change within the building.
The total enrollment figures are the basis of the financial report and the planned budget. As of today, there are 16 fewer students than projected, so the projections are fairly close, leaving the budget also on target.
The district welcomed 23 new teachers in the past two weeks, and there are two remaining to be hired. There is a total of 39 new staff for the school system according to the superintendent. The new teachers attended Culture Camp at Prairie Island and found the experience impactful. On that note the district is in the process of interviewing 3 candidates for the American Indian Education Program Director.
New lunch menus will be posted and there will be small changes with fewer pre-packaged items and more salad bar options. The district will be receiving deliveries from the Red Wing Farmers Market of local and seasonal items.
The Community Education update included information on the over 22,000 visits to the Colvill Aquatic Center this summer and the Community Education Fall Catalog should be arriving in the mail this week.
Many donations were accepted for things ranging from TBMS benches to a large donation of $45,000 from the DeJong Family for improvements to the TBMS pool and toward the Boys and Girls swim programs. There were three donations for tech and robots. All donations were accepted and thankfulness extended to the donors.
In response to a new state mandate, all school districts in Minnesota will need to have a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan. Supt. Jaszczak explained that a team has been chosen, and they are ready to be trained in using the AED and CPR. He explained that we are fortunate to often have medical professionals attending events and that this is to begin the process of resuscitation, as the professionals take over. The board overwhelmingly thought this to be a very good policy move by the state.
The superintendent asked that there be a change to his mileage reimbursement, and that he be paid the government rate and the board approved this change. It had been a monthly stipend of $150, it seems.
The board also gave a public statement that they feel that Mr. Jaszczak has fulfilled his goals or has exceeded the goals set by the board, and the motion was unanimously approved.
Finally, there was information regarding the ballot/referendum issue. The Minnesota Department of Education gave a positive comment so the referendum can continue. The board had a very colorful one sheet information slip that will be available to the public in the near future. I believe there are informational meeting set for Sept.22 at the High School and Oct. 6 at Sunnyside. These meetings should be on the school website for more details.
The meeting adjourned at 5:28 p.m.

Great job Red Wing

We distributed 400 books to kids and helped people of all ages make hundreds of buttons during River City Days. It's great being part of our community's signature summer celebration.
