Featured sculpture and artist of the week: Debris Tree by Dale Lewis

With 88 found objects scattered among its branches, your eyes could spy something new every time you walk by this 8-foot-tall sculpture. Stroll along West Third Street to see for yourself how all the individual pieces come together to create this work of art.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.

Public Notice: Training Exercise
On Tuesday, May 12th, Goodhue County and the City of Red Wing will be conducting a Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) drill. These drills are held every two years to test and evaluate our emergency response plans.

We will also be conducting two additional REP drills/exercises throughout the summer.

If you see emergency personnel, equipment, or unusual activity during this time, please be aware that this is only a drill and there is no cause for concern.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep our community prepared and safe.

As National Police Week (May 10-16) approaches, we remember Red Wing's fallen officers, Chief James Daily and Officer John Peterson.

On January 15, 1907, Chief Daily and Officer Peterson were shot and subsequently died from their injuries on January 16, 1907. The officers were shot while responding to a mental health call at the Sibley Hotel, now the site of Gernentz Auto.

In collaboration with Greg Gernentz, a memorial plaque is now displayed at Gernentz Auto. The public is invited to a dedication ceremony on site on Thursday, May 14, at 12 p.m.

Annual hydrant flushing begins on Monday, May 4! Why do we flush fire hydrants? In addition to verifying that the hydrants are functional and ready for an emergency, flushing hydrants helps maintain water quality and removes accumulated rust from the water mains.

Find out when hydrants in your area are likely to be worked on by checking the spring hydrant flushing schedule here: https://www.redwingmn.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/940
