Mariah, you are a strong, young voice and you will go on to do great things! We are proud of you for all of your hard work and cannot wait to see you in that cap and gown in June! πŸ’šπŸŽ“

Families, teachers, and school staff celebrated two remarkable students at tonight's Shasta County Board of Education meeting. Mariah Ables and Noah McCrae were honored through the Every Student Succeeding program. Mariah, a junior at Shasta County Independent Study, is a model of self-determination and academic focus. She has dedicated herself to her education with professional rigor, earning nearly double the required credits in a single semester. Mariah has become a fierce advocate for her own success, rediscovering her passion for art and drawing while maintaining a clear vision for her future.
Noah, a sixth-grader Excel Academy, has made exceptional growth in his in-class engagement this year - a remarkable display of personal resilience and determination. His hard work and the intentional, system-wide support of his team allowed him to embody the kind, empathetic student he is. He has learned self-management skills, including the wisdom to proactively walk away from instigating peers, which allowed him to stay focused on his personal goal of becoming a better student. His immense personal progress will have a positive impact on his future.

It’s National School Counselor Week!!!

Check out our School Counselor, Mrs. Ingalls!

Mrs. Ingalls says: β€œQuite often this year in the Leadership Academy, I have been asked my WHY. If I could "Name that Tune" in two words, my WHY is to inspire and affirm others... but there's so much more to it.

Sometimes it's hard to articulate...But I KNOW that this has always been my purpose...whether singing or playing a song, bandaging up the boo-boos (physically & emotionally), or being silly with a dance-off just so we can "shake it all out!" It is about making connections with others...making them feel seen and heard...

It can be hard to "show up" every day with the same enthusiasm, focus, and energy. However, my commitment and philosphy has never wavered.

My philosophy as both an educator and counselor remains grounded in the belief that every student enters our schools with strengths, knowledge, and lived experiences that matter. My role is to help students connect what they already know to what they are learning, so they can build confidence, agency, and a belief in their own potential. I strive to create spaces where all voices matter, where relationships come first, and where students feel seen, supported, and capable of growth.”

Happy National School Counseling Week!

"Success is not about winning and failure is not about losing. You fail by giving up. You succeed by staying in the game. You've got this so keep on going." - Sophia Mattice, student speaker.

Along with 3 other student speakers...just a tiny glimpse into the lives of the amazing students we have at our school.

In the words of our principal, Carie Webb, "They have faced challenges they didn't ask for, detours they didn't expect, and moments of sheer uncertainty. The world is ready and waiting for your story!" Congratulations Shasta County Independent Study Graduating Class of 2025!!
