New scam ALERT!

Heads up, Veterans and families: a new mail scam is targeting Veterans with official-looking postcards promoting a fake "Veterans Savings Program."

The postcards claim Veterans and spouses may qualify for up to $185 a month in additional VA benefits — including CHAMPVA, TRICARE, and dental coverage — regardless of disability rating. Scammers imply a VA connection and pressure recipients into calling within five days and sharing personal information like Social Security numbers and birth dates.

VA has received reports of this scam in multiple states, including Iowa, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina.

Protect yourself: never share personal or financial info with unverified contacts, don't act on urgent unsolicited requests, and don't call the number or click any links on a suspicious postcard, email, text, or call. When in doubt, contact VA directly at 1-800-MyVA411 (698-2411). Additional resources in the comments.

Help support the Addicted Offender Program

What better way than playing golf, to lend support to those people gaining sobriety from alcohol and other drugs!!

The Addicted Offender Program (AOP) Alumni Association functions as a non-profit organization under the Shasta County Chemical People, Inc. We operate for the purpose of providing scholarships for current participants who need financial support for early recovery needs and to provide sober events regularly throughout the year to promote healthy community support. Scholarships (reviewed and awarded by alumni and current professional staff) can take the form of assistance buying parts to fix their car, to one-time rent help for their 1st apartment, or funding a group day to Water Works Park to support sober fun in recovery.

We would like to thank you for your time and consideration in support of the current participants of the Shasta County drug court program.

MENTAL HEALTH, ALCOHOL AND DRUG ADVISORY BOARD INVITES APPLICANTS

SHASTA COUNTY—The Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board (MHADAB) is recruiting new members.

MHADAB provides oversight of the local mental health system and alcohol and drug programs. The board is composed of community members, educators, healthcare providers, community partners, law enforcement, veterans, and consumers and family members of mental health or substance use disorder services.

Applicants must live within Shasta County and be available on the third Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. Interested persons may email the Board Secretary at [email protected] for an application. For more information, visit the MHADAB webpage.
